January 5, 2019, and Christmas 2018 is Packed Away!

Well, it is almost packed away.  There are a few packed boxes still not in the sunroom closet so that I will have room to de-clutter a couple of shelves tomorrow, and four plastic tubs are stacked in the kitchen waiting for my son to move them to the garage.  Also the Christmas Stack and Whack quilt that hung in the back bedroom is waiting for me to hand stitch a piece of the original fabric on the back, to show what it was before it was stacked and whacked.  :)  I didn't have time to do that before my son was here to hang it, but I want to finish that before I pack it away!  All other quilts, wall hangings, stockings, etc., are in their place until next November!  I've worked as fast as I could each day this week, but I'm just so slow moving around, and particularly when carrying something.   Also every room has been restored to normal with the usual things back in place, which makes me very happy!

I almost failed to mention that my son and DIL and my two grandsons were here for Christmas Day Lunch.  My DIL was on crutches after falling off a curb at work, so I prepared the GS's favorites:  Chicken spaghetti, English pea salad, candied sweet potatoes, baked corn, and chocolate pie.  Of course, I also had lots of divinity, fudge, peanut butter balls dipped in white chocolate, peanut patties, and pecan pralines which they loaded up on as they all went home, even though I had a hard time making pretty divinity and fudge this year for some reason.   I've never had trouble like I had this year;  I blamed it on the Karo!

This afternoon I decided to get rid of some sheer junk out of the sunroom closet to make space for other things that are so stacked up it is difficult to even want to use them.  There were lots of little boxes left over from small gifts from others, old boxes from phones and cameras that have been long out of use; you just wouldn't believe what a pack rat I am!  But I'm hoping to change that this year!  With the stuff I removed from my bedroom last week, I had two trash bags almost full.  Getting rid of all that made me feel almost better than getting Christmas packed away!

I'm really a tired puppy tonight, but I've also done three loads of laundry, and have had my shower, and the bed is turned down ready for me to climb in as soon as the Cowboy game is over.  If they don't get to playing better, I may go to bed before the game is over.  :(

I'm not sure what quilting project I'll work on first, maybe next week.  I have several I need to finish, but I'm so wanting to start my new project.  It won't be easy for me; it may be a trial and error sort of thing, but I'll just take it slow when I do get started on it.  I need to do some more studying about it too!

I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's plans for 2019, and I'm looking forward to seeing your accomplishments.  Have fun with each project, okay?  Maybe I'll have at least a block to show you next post.

  1. Wow, Love, you put me to shame. I still have several garlands and Alpine trees around the house--and the Christmas tree is still up (and decorated). But my focus has been on enjoying the week after Christmas, and then a mad rush to get ready for retreat next week.
I hope I grow up to be like you. I get tired just reading about your activities! Kudos to you!!

  2. Sounds like you're getting the new year started off on the right foot with the decluttering efforts. We need to do a bit of that around here too. Looking forward to seeing your next quilting project.

  3. I hope you stayed up to watch the end of the Cowboy game!! Of course, DH was watching it. He kind of shocked me yesterday by starting to put the Christmas decorations away. I usually leave them up longer, but with him starting the project (for the first time) I thought I would jump in and we got everything boxed up and put back into the attic. It did feel good. Have fun with your new project - can't wait to see what it is!!

  4. All that candy sounds yummy! Glad you have everything packed up, that is a big job. I just finished taking my decorations down, too. Wore me out. It will be fun to hear what your first quilting project will be. Have fun!

  5. You sure seem to have packed up Christmas quickly, but reading about it is far different from doing it! But that means the sewing machine can come back out to play and it sounds like you've got a list in your head already. I look forward to seeing what you decide to work on. I, too, have some decisions to make now that I'm home from retreat...ugh!

  6. Packing away the Christmas decorations away takes more time and effort than putting them up in the first place. They also seem to take up more space - at least in my house! Christmas lunch sounds delicious. Any chance you might share the English pea salad recipe? Lucky family to be able to take home your Christmas candies. Looking forward to seeing your new projects.
