Finally a Few Minutes to Show What I've Been Up To!

Since the quilt retreat, I've been really busy, busy!  Seems like there has been no time for a break at all, and I haven't really accomplished too much.  I have, however, made a little time for quilting.  Guess that should be time for sewing.  But....I've done a lot more than that which kept me from sewing.

Second day after arriving at home after the retreat, I was contacted by the funeral home and asked to play for a dear friend's funeral.   Then two days after that a classmate died, one that had all through our school days had lived just two doors from me, and we had played together all those years with our little neighborhood gang on the  vacant lot between our homes.  Though w never dated, I loved him dearly, almost like a brother, (and he was so darned good looking!).   Would you believe that the very night of his funeral visitation before his funeral, another dear classmate had to be taken to the emergency room, and was later dismissed to a nursing home where he will spend the rest of his life!  All of this was almost more than I could deal with.  Since then two more friends, not classmates, have died.  I'm about ready for a "happy" party rather than a funeral!  So much for that!

I had shown the little cowboy quilts in earlier posts.  Well, I finally got them mailed to my grandson today.  I think his little cowboy is due Sept. 9, so I didn't have much time to spare there.

Seems like all the rest of the time I've either been in a doctor's office, the ER, or having a Vertigo drop attack at home!  In the past ten days I've had one attack as I was leaving the doctor's office, plus four others since at home!  Haven't had one yet today, and hope I don't, but I can't guarantee it.    They come on so unexpected and so fast.  I'm told by three doctors that there is no cure for Meniere's Disease, but I wish something could be found to control it, and soon!  It sure cuts down on my gasoline bill though; I haven't even looked in the garage at my car in two weeks!  I'm about to wear my son and my friends out, just hauling me around!

It's really a good thing that I love my home, and love being here!  So------in the meantime, I've gotten my embroidery blocks together into a quilt top.  I hope to begin quilting it next week if all goes well between doctor's appointments.  It is not perfect, and not as pretty as the quilt that inspired me to try it,  but so far, I'm very proud and pleased with it.   It is now 107" x 97", larger than anything I've made in a long time!

So here's a few pictures of it.

I like the way the sashings fit around the bed edge.   Never before made one this close to floor!

Center Block; I just couldn't  cut into her pretty dress!

Hope everyone has a great week-end, with cooler weather, but no storms!

  2. Love, sorry to hear about all the funerals, so many it makes me sad, too. Hope you are doing better with the vertigo attacks too. That sound scary. Glad your son and friends can help out getting you where you need to go. Your quilt top is beautiful, love the lady in the center. A perfect spot for her! That was so much work and it looks beautiful on the bed. How do you want to quilt it?

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about all the bad news with your friends. Maybe you'll have to be the one to plan the happy party? And the vertigo attacks are scary. I hope they subside soon...and wouldn't a cure be wonderful?! The quilt is amazing and beautiful and HUGE! I know quilting will shrink it a little, but holy wow! It's such a wonderful way to honor all those hours that others have spent embroidering, it will be a treasure for a long time.

  4. The quilt is absolutely gorgeous!!! I really love it and would like to make something similar, but just a table runner or something small. A 94 year old friend of mine recently died and she had told me that all her friends were dead. She sure didn't think she would live to be 94! I'm sorry that so many of your friends have died and I know you have faith and that is a comfort that God is in control. Hope your vertigo will lessen and can be controlled better.

  5. Sorry you are dealing with more of the dizzy spells--so frustrating!
And so many good-byes for departing friends have to be wearing on the soul.
But what a special treasure you have created in that quilt from the vintage linens. Makes me smile to see how soft and pretty it is.
