I did manage to get the first border around the Underground Railroad quilt, and the mitered corners turned out well enough to suit me. I didn't have to adjust any of them; they hit perfectly the first time. I rather like the striped border. I'm thinking half-square triangles next maybe, but not soon! Here's a look at one corner. (The top is not hung very straight again.)
I did get to sneak out to a friend's yard sale late Saturday and bought this patriotic pillow sham for my collection. She didn't make the sham, but did paint the heart with "Land that we love"; I thought it was cute.
I also bought a throw with horses for the GS; he liked it, even though it is well worn.
It's back to the Biology now until that's finished! Not much else will be happening!
We have had about two full weeks of 100 degree heat, with another full week predicted; no rain in sight! I did get the car AC repaired; rather expensive, but well worth it! *sigh*
Have a good week! Hope everyone gets a lot of quilting time in! I'll be suffering!

Well done to both of you! Bet you never imagined you'd have to do high school twice. Your quilt is looking terrific - love the colour combinations especially in the border and sashing fabrics. Good buys at the yrad sale. Ann :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, the heat is brutal this year. We are in the midst of out 4th heat wave already and our really hot weather doesn't arrive until August! Love how the civil war quilt is shaping up and your finds are just wonderful. Good luck to your GS in his finals.

Your underground RR quilt looks great! The border is perfect and I'm sure whatever you decide for the rest of the border will be wonderful too. Good work for your GS too! I hope he figures out that it pays to buckle down in school and do his best. My SIL gave me 3 bags of fabric from her mother's stash. She decided she would never get around to using it. I will probably use lots of it for donation quilts/backings. Woo Hoo!
ReplyDeleteI hope your grandson realizes just how lucky he is. Not everyone would be willing to spend that much time tutoring a grandchild.
ReplyDeleteThe Underground Railroad quilt is looking great. That mitered corner is perfect! Try to stay cool.
Sandy
You are a saint for spending so much time helping your Grandson, I know he appreciates it, too. Best of luck to him with the biology test. Your mitered corners look perfect to me, great job! I love your yard sale finds, very cute. Well, with all the studying you will be inside for a while and hopefully staying cool. We did have a little rain yesterday, very little. Just enough to leave dirty spots on my windows and vehicles.
ReplyDeleteThe Underground Railroad quilt looks great - aren't you glad you lost the border fabric now? :) Good luck to your grandson, I hope he does as well in Biology! And though he may not be saying it, I will - thank you for taking the time to teach him!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is coming along beautifully! I'm glad you went to the effort of mitreing the corners.
ReplyDeleteWe're enjoying a very icy winter here, with the fire going virtually non stop! ♥
The mitered corners in the border are just the thing for that stripe, and the stripe is just the thing for that quilt. Nice job! Good luck to your GS with his finals, and good luck to his tutor too! You must be a very patient person :)
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the quilt! Wonderful that you could tutor your GS.
ReplyDeleteYour underground railroad is lovely.
Thanks for sharing, Carolyn
The striped border is so perfect! (How it looks and how well you mitered too).
ReplyDeleteYou got some great yard sale finds.Glad you could slip out long enough to go to the yard sale.
Your GS is getting a wonderful gift. Your time and energy and talent to help him study. I really am not sure that I would have enough energy for all the hours you are putting into the tutoring. He is very lucky.
