Do you ever have a time when you just don't want to do anything? I mean, including quilting? Seems like I've been in that "don't want to do it" mood for several days, and I don't like it a bit! I don't want to clean house, work in the yard, or even sew, but I've made myself do a little of all those. I think the quilt frame incident affected me more than I like to admit, and I've just rebelled against everything! Got to get over that attitude right now!
I did get a couple of Civil War blocks made. I had skipped Week 6 - Richmond block, thinking I needed to get a special fabric, but decided to use these fabrics this week, and I like how it turned out.

Yesterday I made Week 33 block - Indiana Puzzle. I really enjoyed Barbara Brackman's history lesson on this block, and the Copperheads and copper pennies. I was using my Curvemaster foot, and somehow managed to get the needle stuck in the plastic; the needle broke, and so did the foot! In desperation, I learned that using the same technique with my 1/4" foot with the little lip edge worked just as well, or maybe even better! I've glued the foot back together; maybe it will hold; if not, so be it! (I forgot to square up the edges of the block before the picture, but I'm not going back now!)

I had received a birthday gift certificate from a quilt store I rarely shop, and I kept forgetting to redeem it. I finally did that, and got a few notions and a Thermore batting, and a baby quilt panel. I've never used Thermore, but I'm looking forward to it someday. I got the baby quilt made last week, and did something I've never done. I'm not sure who will be the recipient yet, but I'm guessing it will go to a summer baby. Rather than put a heavier cotton batting, for our Texas summers, I used just a double-sided cotton flannel which I washed in hot water and dried on high dryer heat to do a total shrink job. The quilt is very thin, but should be just right for a tiny one when the A.C. is a little cool. The quilt is 36" square, and has nursery rhyme lines.

I think today I'll go get some plants for the patio and yard. I usually have that all done by now, and I haven't bought a single plant yet this year! At least I got the taxes done last week! Got to get out of this "don't want to" mood! Maybe the sunshine will help!
Hope everyone gets lots of sewing/quilting done this week!

Hello "Love". I know exactly what you mean.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your Civil War blocks. That will someday be an amazing quilt.
There is so much to tell. One day soon I will send an email your way.
Sandy
Oh yes, I'm familiar with the "Don't wanna" mood! I'm working on budging out of one of those myself. There's lots that needs doing, some of it stuff I usually enjoy, too...Good for you making yourself do a little bit of everything. That's what I need to do as well.
ReplyDeleteHello Friend!!! Your quilt is adorable!! Perfect for a Texas Summer baby! I've totally been in the same "don't wanna do anything" mood too. But it's because I have to waste time "working" during the day when I'd much rather be home sewing up a storm! hehe Hope everything else is well. Jenn
ReplyDeleteBoth of your blocks are super, love the fabrics you are using! Sorry to hear you broke the foot but hope the glue fixes it. The baby quilt is very cute, too. I've read several group postings about using the flannel instead of batting. Sometimes a really light cover is what is needed and it will be so easy as the baby gets older for it to drag the quilt around, sounds perfect to me! I've had the "don't want to do it's" some the last couple of weeks. We have been busy with lots of social outings, which I love, but they have interferred with my daily routine. I have a bunch of things I want to work on but didn't feel like it with just the little bits of free time. I hope I get more motivated now that most of the running around is done.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that you will soon be back to your usual super busy self. Every now and then I think we need some down time to recharge our batteries and start again doing all the stuff we usually love.
ReplyDeleteYour CW blocks turned out really great. I like your curves.
I am about to finish up a baby quilt for a cousin's grandson in Texas. Thanks for sharing your baby quilt without batting. I was thinking it might be too hot for a regular quilt. Now I will just get flannel for the back, quilt, bind and send it south.
For a "don't want to" mood, you sure got a lot done! The CW blocks look great, as usual. And how interesting that you don't need the curvemaster foot - I bet they don't want many quilters figuring that out! The baby quilt is sweet and I love the idea of the thinner batting. I always feel a little odd giving a full-thickness quilt to a summer baby, but with the cold temps we get up here in winters, I know it will get used, but your idea is a good one. I'm going to have to remember that. But I totally understand your mood. I usually end up reading when I get that way and feel okay because I did something more than, as the hubby puts it, hold down the couch! I hope you get your quilty-gardening mojo back soon. (And who has cleaning mojo?!)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are great and the baby quilt is super cute! Good for a boy or girl, too! I'm sure you will get out of the doldrums soon. Maybe it's the warmer weather, or something. Of course, I never feel like cleaning house or doing yard work, so I always have to push myself to do those chores. There are so many things around here that need to be done, but I would rather sew. At least I do feel like doing that.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, doing that with the don't wanna mood;) Need to break it soon. Love what you have been working on;) That baby quilt is wonderful and the light "filler" sounds like a smart move;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Quilting!!
Yeah, I been there, too! Days like that I tend to sit on the sofa and watch TV. Sometimes it passes quickly and sometimes it doesn't. But when it wears off, I get a lot done to make up for lost time. Hang in there, Love, your mojo will come back.
