I've enjoyed more time at home alone this past week, and have had fun on this little project.
The pattern, by Nancy Kiman came from a book named "Easy Four-Patch Quilting". I've had it for a long time. I've had the '30's fabrics since I first started quilting --- indeed, from my first BOM project, which I never finished! This is the first time I've made a pieced binding, but I like the look for this one. This quilt, and the little pillow on the table, are going to Spokane, WA to my aunt, soon to be 95. She called last week while I was working on the quilt. I told her I was quilting at the time, but she has no idea it is for her. She mentioned that she needed something to cover her knees in her wheel chair, so I thought these fabrics would be great for her. I'll be mailing it to her probably Friday. In 1993 she mailed a little greeting card which I framed, and I've kept it on my dresser as a daily reminder, not only of her, but life in general. (I've tried four times to get the picture here, and as usual, Blogger shows it to be downloaded, but it never shows up! It says: " Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." Quote by James Barrie) I'll be sending a picture of it back to her with the quilt. Through the years she has brought a lot of sunshine into the lives of others, and I decided it is time to send some sunshine into her life. She had lived in Dallas for many years, but after my uncle died, her daughter moved her to a nursing home in Spokane. She wants to come back to Dallas, but it wouldn't be the same for her because she has outlived all her friends there. (Just so you know, Blogger won't let me put in paragraphs either!) You may remember the two Scripture quilts I made for my pastor and his wife in early 2012, February I think. Today I finally made pillows to match their quilts. They are retiring very soon, and I wanted them to have a pillow on which to lay their heads. Don't know what's up next for me. I think maybe a day or two of rest! Have a good week. ---"Love"

What a pretty quilt. The 30's fabrics are so pretty and happy (springing from some not so happy times, or at least no easy times). It is wonderful that you are sending it to your Aunt who will cherish it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice the pillow until I enlarged the quilt. It is really cute! It sure would be great for the couch, the car, or anywhere you want to rest for a bit.
Have a good rest before you are on to the next project.
That is a very pretty little quilt and I'm sure your Aunt will love it. I really like the scrappy binding, it frames the quilt so well. You did a beautiful job making it. The pillow is adorable, too. Perfect gifts.
ReplyDeleteI do love that quilt! the 1930's style prints are just perfect for it. I'm sure your aunt will be very pleased to receive such a lovely surprise.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have seen other patterns with the 4-patches lined up in other directions too and have always really liked them. Maybe one day! I know your aunt will love it too.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and I'm sure it will be well-loved. I'm always drawn to the 30's prints because of their bright, cheerful colors and I hope it will do the same for your aunt. As for Blogger - it's not behaving properly for me either...seems these things come and go and maybe in another week we'll be back to good.
