In addition to a lot of other things, believe it or not, I have been quilting a little bit!
This little wall hanging, 25" square, will be donated to the church youth group auction. It will be placed in the basketful of fishing "things", donated by my SS class.

I didn't have enough of the water fabric for all the borders, so I had to improvise and piece. Neither did I have enough fabric left to make a hanging sleeve, so the little black straps were stitched on, under the back side of the binding. I'm going to put a note with the quilt to the buyer that I think it would look cute hanging on an old fishing pole in his man cave. (I don't see a wife allowing it in the house, even though my son has fish quilts all over his house. Of course, they were on the walls before the new wife moved in.--- tee hee!) The top border center piece was left over from something I made for my son years ago. This was a lesson/practice in free motion quilting. Remember, I've said several times I will probably ruin a lot of good quilts by trying to learn FMQ! This is just another one in that category, but hey, it's finished!
Now I can move on to my bird panel for my sunroom. I got it sandwiched last night.
Over the week-end, my back yard caught 0.8 inches of wonderful rain, and a little wind and lightening, but no damage. And this morning, the sun is shining beautifully! Thank you, Lord!

Those borders are not improvised because of being short of fabric. They are a lovely design element :) I'm sure your freemotion quilting is just lovely as well! Now go enjoy making something for yourself. I'm looking forward to a peek at the bird panel.
ReplyDeletePerfect for a man cave! And I think the borders are perfect too.
ReplyDeleteI love the borders, very creative and add a lot to the quilt, I still love the idea of hanging it on a fishing pole. Sure would look good in any mancave. LOL
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your birds.
That is a great quilt for a guy and it is very pretty, too. The fabrics you used are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect and, so long as you don't admit it, no one is going to know it's so improvised. The quilting looks great from here, too! If you didn't live so far away, I'd offer you the busted fishing pole in my garage (I'd bet there's more than one of those, but the hubby won't admit it!) to include as a hangar, but that's a bit of a trip just for a broken fishing pole!
