I took advice from Ruth of Country Log Cabins to change my picture settings to Large. If you click on the pictures twice, you can see the beautiful fabrics and my stitches much better. (Also you can better see that I probably should do something inside each of the nine sections of each block, but NO---I'M FINISHED!)
A door knob is behind the "2015" above; that corner really is square. *giggle* Maybe you can see the stitches better from the back side, or one of the close-up pictures.
I began to think I would never get it finished! The weather here has been so depressing lately. We went 12 days with no sunshine and 3 ice/snow storms. Not bad like many have you have experienced, but my frame of mind (and body!) were sorely affected. I just couldn't stay focused on anything, and every joint in my body has ached for days!
I took pictures of each ice storm, but the last was the worst (actually the prettiest). I show that picture, not to show the snow but rather to show the SHADOWS, the first in 12 days! The sun finally came out! That many cloudy, cold days in a row is just not like Texas! Saturday was sunny and somewhat warmer; then on Sunday clouds and much needed rain rolled in again. It rained all day Monday, but today is looking a little better, (brighter, but still overcast, not bright enough to make shadows). The forecast for the next week, up in the high 60's and low 70's maybe, looks much better. Yea!!!
Our quilting group had to cancel our plans to attend the Waco Shop Hop and Quilt Show because of the ice storm. I've heard attendance was really down because of the terrible driving conditions all around. You know, Texans don't know how to drive on ice, and all the Interstate Highways were very dangerous for days at a time, and lots of schools were closed most of last week. Remember, we don't have that much ice very often, so we don't have the road clearing equipment like other northern States have. Very dangerous, and even more depressing!
I hope we have seen the last of winter! It is time for Spring! No doubt many of you feel the same way.
I'm trying to decide on my next project; I have several whirling in my head. A couple of them should be fairly simple and quick; another will be more complicated and will require a lot of time that I seem to be short of! But wouldn't you know, that's the one I really want to start on. Of course, it will require a trip to the quilt store for background fabric to go with all my Civil War fabric leftovers. Got to figure out how to use them somehow. And then again, there's another Texas quilt (sort of) trying to crowd in the open spaces in my brain! Decisions, decisions! Maybe I should never go to bed, but just play with my quilts 24/7.
What I really need to do is clean house and closets! My sewing closet is in a BIG mess! So are my other closets!.....and the yard......and the garage......and the car! So much to do; so little time, and all I really want to do is start another project, maybe tomorrow!
First I have to close down all this foolishness!
Have fun quilting, everyone!

Great idea to use the fancy stitching from your sewing machine! It looks great! Remind me what kind of machine you have - I don't remember. I hardly ever use my fancy stitching, although I did use it on a doll quilt lately. BTW, everything is blooming here and I planted some flowers today. We have had an unusually mild winter - so they say.
ReplyDeleteI love how your quilt came out! The purple thread and the decorative stitches really compliment the fabrics. It wakes the quilt up! You did a great job. I'm glad you like it more now and it was a great learning experience. I think it is very pretty! In NM we had several days of gray skies, just yucky days. It was depressing because we usually have some sun everyday. Things are looking up now, nicer weather is in the forecast. It was fun though, two weeks ago on a Friday morning we woke to 3 inches of snow on the ground, then on the Saturday morning, there were about 10 inches of snow. It looked so pretty, but cloudy. Finally on Saturday afternoon, the sun came out and it was all melted before evening. I like sunny better! Can't wait to see what you start next, I would go with the one you really want to start, just because it is speaking the loudest. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI really like the decorative stitches you used, it really makes the quilt look like a (Victorian) crazy quilt. Only with a more modern twist.
ReplyDeleteI too hope that winter is about to depart. It really hasn't been very severe but it seems as if it has been going on forever and ever.
Here's to sunshine and new projects.
I've never thought to use the fancy stitches on my machine like that but Nora (do you remember her from APQ blog days?) did some clever stuff. Did you use a special thread or just the ordinary stuff? I hope Spring is on it's way for you. We are starting to have a little Autumn - just a little mind. I'm more inclined to visit Texas when it's cooler. Definitely on my travel wish list!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the fancy stitches. Now it looks like a crazy quilt - perfect! I'm not sure we northerners know how to drive on ice either. We know to drive slower, but otherwise, our tires spin just like yours! But you're right - we are more prepared to deal with it. I hope the sunshine continues for you (and me) and look forward to seeing what project you start next.
