Since my last post a month ago, it seems all I've done is a lot of nothing! I finally got all of Christmas packed away about 10 days ago, and since then, I've either been at a doctor's office or at physical therapy almost every day and will be for at least another week. I'm about ready to quit ever going to a doctor again! I've determined that when one has good insurance, which I do, they gang up on us and order every test known to man. And so far, I know nothing more except that I had a stroke about the middle of December. I repeat --- I'm about ready to quit ever going to a doctor again! Thanks be to God, it wasn't as serious as it could have been, but my right leg and foot do not want to work right, and I can't keep my balance; hopefully the therapy will help that. By the way, did I tell you, " I'm about ready to quit ever going to a doctor again!"
My first stroke in 2007 left my entire left side tingling 24/7 from head to toes. With this second stroke, my right leg and foot don't cooperate very well, but at least they are not paralyzed. I'm sure you've heard of that person who doesn't have a leg to stand on. Well, I guess I'm that person!
Anyway, the only sewing I've done since November 28 when I finished those 22 Christmas pillowcases, is that I have made two more pillowcases that will go to our church Youth Auction later in the Spring. Maybe some kid will like them.
The main fabric was in a load of fabric donated to our church quilters group, and the red fabric with stars was left over from my fire themed donation quilts from a long time ago.
I do have fabrics for two more donation quilts and hope to start on them maybe tomorrow. The first one should go fairly quickly, but I've still got planning to do for the second one --- IF I can stay at home rather than at doctor appointments!
This is definitely not my kind of schedule lately! My dear son has been so good to drive me wherever I need to be so far, and friends will pick up the slack when he has to be at work. I am so blessed that so many want to help me so much!
With that, I think I'll go thread the sewing machine, and see if I can get started on a quilt!
I've really enjoyed staying up with everyone's blogs --- so many pretty quilts everywhere!
All the snow reports in the Northeast have been so terrible. I keep thinking of one particular blogging friend in Philadelphia. An attempt at e-mail failed, so Liri, if you see this, please let us hear from you; it's been way too long! I've missed your blog so much. I hope you are okay and warm.

I am counting them! Hopefully you will be feeling good enough to move on to some quilts next!
ReplyDeleteThe pillowcases are just perfect for boys and yes, they definitely are a "finish" that should be counted! I'm so sorry to hear about your stroke and hope that the therapy will help a lot. Are you using a walker now? Thankfully you have many, many friends who can step in when your son is working. I'm glad you are able to sew and hope you can get started quilting again soon.
ReplyDeleteThey sure do count Love. Doctor visits aren't much fun. Hopefully, you manage to escape their clutches long enough to spend some time sewing.
ReplyDeleteThose pillowcases count, no question! I'm glad to hear you're doing better. You had me quite worried with your last post and not knowing what was wrong. A stroke is certainly nothing to scoff at, but it sounds like the doctors, despite their ordering every test to man, have your best interests at heart. If you're like me, you need to live forever to complete all the projects in your head, so they'd better order a couple more extra tests! And hang in there with the physical therapy...I've heard the PT they use to abbreviate it with referred to as "pain and torture" and though I've never had to go through it, I can only imagine. It WILL get better and the alternative of not being mobile is definitely NOT worth giving up. (My mom, years ago, broke her shoulder and didn't do PT. It healed wrong and years later she ended up having to basically have it rebroken and go through PT to get mobility again - after seeing that, I KNOW it's important!) Keep sewing, use those friends with offers of rides and don't feel bad about Christmas being packed up so late. My tree is still standing in the corner...out of the way, so it keeps being forgotten. (You'd think, though, that a 3-foot tall, fake tree that I can carry around with one hand wouldn't be THAT hard to get back in the attic...)
ReplyDeleteOf course the pillow cases count. The fabrics in them are great and some little person will love the space themed cases. Sorry to hear about the stroke, I'm glad there wasn't too much more damage. Keep up the PT so things will improve and you can enjoy doing what you like.
