Since last Friday, I had plumbers and a tile man in and out of my house every day. First the plumbers were here to fix a leaky commode in my master bath, and also a leaky tub faucet. In the process, they managed to break some tile around the pipes to the tub. Of course, the tile was old, and no longer available. Also I could see that other tile problems were brewing. Because of my strokes, I have a difficult time stepping into the tub, so I talked to them about removing the tub and installing a large walk-in shower. They recommended a good tile man; he came Saturday morning, and long story short, he cut the tub out, and today is preparing everything to begin putting the new tile shower in tomorrow. Of course, the plumbers had to come back and move the drain and faucet handle, etc. It's been quite an interesting process for me to watch. It probably won't be finished until next week, but I'll get by with my other bathroom.
They recommended I take all my glass, pictures, and flowers out of the bedroom and hall to avoid any breakage and lots of dust. Also the pictures and antique clock had to be removed from the living room wall backing up to the bath wall, and my organ and chairs in the living room had to be moved to the other side of the room to get them out of the way. Everything removed is crammed in my back bedroom, and it is full and overflowing with pretty "stuff"! I hate waking up in my bedroom with only the furniture. The dresser had to be moved to middle of the room, and of course, the couch in the den had to be moved over, and I draped the piano with an old quilt from a yard sale to protect it as they rounded that corner with their tools and materials. My house is in total disarray!
But.....I did make my Block Heads block 26. I started it last night, and hit a snag when the large half squares were not large enough to work with the pieced triangle portion. If any of you are making that block, I'd suggest you cut the light blocks at 3", and then trim the block to 2.5". Fortunately I discovered that when I tried to put the first one together. No problem after that. I finished it this morning. Here's my only sewing for the week!
When the construction is finished, I'll show a picture; it's too big a mess now!
The rest of the house will require a major clean-up too. I'm not looking forward to that! I'll just be glad when they finish! I think it will be very nice, and safer for this old lady!

Sounds like major upheaval going on for you. I'm surprised you got any sewing done at all!
ReplyDeleteThis block is very striking. The colors are so classy and the design has lots of visual appeal.
Another beautiful block. I finally managed to catch up with mine. A nice new bathroom sounds wonderful and best of all it should be safe. (When the time comes to clean your house I hope you ask for help.)
ReplyDeleteLife is such an adventure! You should take photos in progress so you can appreciate how nice it looks without the mess! The block looks great and hurray for any sewing...it's always a good thing!
ReplyDeleteA new bathroom sounds wonderful and great that it will be safer for you to use.
ReplyDeleteyour blocks are always stunning, well done my friend xx
Bathrooms are costly and messy but well worth it in the end. Another terrific Blockheads Block. Hope you and all you know are okay after Hurricane Harvey.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're living in disarray for a little bit, but it sounds like it will be worth it in the end. I hope you ask for help to help with putting the mess to rights after the builders are done. And of course, take a little time for sewing therapy when you can :)Your block looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm really behind with reading blogs! I didn't know that putting up tile was that much trouble!! I'm sure it will really be nice when it's finished. Your block is perfect. Love the fabrics and colors. I made 2 of them and 2 of week #27 but haven't posted them yet. There's an error in the size of the first square in a square, but it comes out OK if you just ignore it.
ReplyDeleteYour Blockheads block is so pretty. I love all your red, white and blue. I am looking forward to the finished quilt! I know what you mean about the house being turned upside down. We are going to have our guest bathroom redone in a couple of weeks. I've been busy clearing everything out and it is all over the place. I'm anxious for it to be done, then we start on the master bath! Enjoy some sewing time!
