Want to See Something Pretty?

Just take a look!  Wish I could say I made it, or that it is mine, either one!

Last February I bought a wedge ruler for my DIL who had begun learning to quilt in October, 2017; just one year ago this month.  I've shown you some of her other projects, but she just finished the binding on this beautiful tree skirt for her daughter.  She didn't ask me for any help at all except to help her pin it on my big table so she could then quilt it.  This is her seventh project ever!  She stitched in the ditch every vertical and circular seam.  I am so proud of her!

I'm still trying to get my house back in order after the bathroom shower construction.  I've been working really hard the past weeks, and things are looking better, but I still have a lot to do.  I decided to rebel yesterday and catch up on my Moda Blockheads blocks, and tonight I finally finished even the one that came out this morning.

So here are my last six blocks, Week 26 through 31:
Week 26; I love this pattern.

Week 27; I love how this one turned out.  The pinwheel was printed in the fabric, of course.

Week 28;I thought a star more appropriate for me than the pumpkin;
did I ever tell you I hate doing applique?  (Yeah, I think I did!)

Week 29; I changed the suggested color arrangement, which caused me some grief, but I'm okay with it.

Week 30; I cheated on this one; had some fabric with the 4-patches printed in just the right size!

Week 31; this one was easy after some of the earlier ones!  I like its simplicity.
So I'm caught up again on my Blockheads for now finally!  If I ever decide to do a weekly thing with such tiny pieces again, please, someone remind me not to do it!  My fingers have a hard time with so many tiny pieces in a 6.5" block!  But I'm determined to stick with it to the finish!  So there!

Yesterday I also hand-stitched a hanging sleeve on a quilt I made in 2006 so I can enter it in a nearby small show on Oct. 21.  I haven't finished anything this entire year, and I had to dig way back to find something I had not already entered in that show in years past.  It's as big quilt, and I can't get a decent full picture until it's hanging at the show.  I'll get a picture then.

Got to close this down and get to bed!  I go to church quilting tomorrow.  Last week we got started on a new scrappy project; not sure how it will turn out, but we'll see someday.

I told my quilting buddy today that it's been so long since I've quilted any, that I've almost forgotten how to do anything!  I need to get busy quilting again!  Christmas is coming!

  1. Your DIL did an amazing job! She must be a natural.
Nice work on your Blockheads. I'm really liking your patriotic color scheme.

  2. Oh my Love - what a super tree skirt. Your DIL has done a wonderful job (she's had a really mentor and supporter in you). Those 6.5" inch blocks look terrific and I admire you for tackling them.

  3. Wow! I hope your daughter-in-law knows how talented she is. Your Block Head blocks are looking great. I was all caught up until the appliqué pumpkin appeared. I am still looking for a suitable replacement. Our Canadian Thanksgiving is this coming weekend, so there is lots of preparation to do. Probably not much time for sewing!

  4. 6 ½" blocks are a challenge, however, you have done an exceptional job! That is going to be a gorgeous quilt when you get it done!

  5. It must be very gratifying to have your DIL take to quilting so well!! I love your Mood blocks! I agree with you about the pumpkin block. I haven't made that one yet, but have made all the other ones. (and 2 of the most recent). I'm not sure what I'll do to replace the pumpkin, but will worry about that later! I'm going to another quilt show today and tomorrow! My DH & DS just rolled their eyes about it - plus my guild meeting on Monday. I reminded them that there was absolutely nothing quilting related to go to all summer.

  6. Your DIL really does nice work, you both should be very proud of her tree skirt. It is amazing and will look wonderful under her tree! Your Blockhead blocks are great! Changing the pumpkin to a star will fit into your quilt very well. I'm loving all the red, white and blue. Good luck at the show, be sure to show us photos! I can relate to clean up after the bathroom construction. They are suppose to finish up ours Tuesday or Wednesday. I spent some time today trying to clean the construction dust off of things in my bedroom. I am loving the progress so far in my bathroom, but I really want it finished! The thing is, we are having them remodel the other bathroom in a few months, so I will start all over with the mess :(

  7. Your DIL's tree skirt is indeed pretty. She's off and running with the quilting bug, I think. I'm sure that's your influence at work. Your Moda blockhead blocks will make a wonderful quilt. Good idea to replace the pumpkin with a star. The pumpkin doesn't seem to belong. I hope you are enjoying the scrap quilting project at your church quilting group.
