Last Saturday I attended my fourth quilt show in eight days, and it was the best show of all! Oh, all three of the others had lots of beautiful quilts and unusual displays. You can see my last post for the pictures from the first two shows. I'll show the third show pictures after these fourth show pictures.
I had this quilt entered in the nearby show. I didn't get a ribbon, but I wasn't really expecting one. I love it anyway. I pieced it back in 2006 and had it quilted by check, as some say, and the lady did a beautiful job quilting it. Sorry the picture is a little fuzzy. The pattern is Garden Twist, by Sharon Yenter, from In The Beginning Fabrics.
My DIL has been quilting one year this month, and had given her mother and me a table topper each. I am so very proud of her work, and I insisted that she enter both projects in the show. My son was so excited about the show that he arranged to change his work schedule so he could come to the show. She went to pick up her mother, but he came to the show alone and met me there before they got there.
He and I came first to the one she had given her mother for her 75th birthday. Lo and behold, it had a Third Place ribbon pinned on it! (I had really expected a First Place ribbon on it!) You may remember that she won a bunch of Christmas fat quarters at the retreat last year; this is what she made with them, her fourth project ever! I absolutely love it! It was designed by Patti Carey, and the pattern was in the 2012 Holiday Edition of "Quilting for Christmas", an old magazine I loaned her. The only help she requested from me was to help her sandwich it on my big table! Needless to say her mother loves it too!
Then my son and I walked on up to her other project, the one she gave me; it was her second project. Lo and behold, it had a blue First Place Ribbon hanging on it! She said all along that her quilting was much better on it than on the Christmas one. I love it, of course, because she gave it to me, her second project, and I love the hearts. She secretly measured my coffee table so I could use it for Valentine's Day in my den. The Heart Block pattern came from Carol Doak's "Your First Quilt Book" that I had given her from my library when she first started quilting last October. I must agree, her stitching was more accurate on this one. However, I love them both!
They were in different show classes. One class had eight projects, and the other class had seven projects, so she did have some competition, and some of them were really good! Here are a few of them.
So you see, the competition really was pretty tough! Again, I'm so proud of my DIL's quilting! |

There were lots of other large pretty quilts too, but I also want to show just a few pictures of the third show I went to on Friday before the show above. I took an older friend with me who moved to Texas from New Hampshire last year; she joined our church quilting group, and she is such a joy to be with; I love her already! She had never been west from our little city, and she had never seen the rolling hills and old country western towns I took her through. She was amazed that we have such beautiful old churches in the area.
The Friday show was in a beautiful and historical Presbyterian Church, and the quilts were displayed over the pews. I had never seen that done before. While it was a beautiful display, it was not possible to see the full quilts like I wish we could have seen if they had been hanging.

| Guess who's coming soon? He was beautiful! |
After we finished at the show, I drove her around the old town, the County Seat with a beautiful Courthouse, and lots of old store fronts that she enjoyed seeing. She said it looks like something from a western movie. Then we drove around by several lovely old homes.
Then I took her to the next town, also a County Seat, and it has an interesting old hardware store that has all sorts of fun things: tools, men''s western clothing, pretty dishes and knick knacks, and best of all, Fabric! Lots of Fabric! Lots of it Moda! And at prices far below quilt store prices. Some of you readers may know where I'm talking about. Any quilter who gets anywhere near this town of Weatherford always goes to the old Gibson's store! It is a real treat! I bought a little fabric, not much, but my friend just looked. She was worn out, so we drove around that beautiful Courthouse, and out to the west side of town just to show her where the other quilt stores are, but she was ready to come home, so we took the most direct route home, which took a little over an hour.
We both were ready for a rest when I left her at her apartment. We had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed the quilt show.
I don't know of any more quilt shows in the area until after Christmas, but if any come up, I'm sure I'll try to go. It's almost time for me to begin thinking about getting ready for Christmas! I haven't done any Christmas shopping, but my heart is already thinking about dragging out decorations! I'm such a Christmas freak! I wish that Santa quilt above were mine!
I don't know why I can't get my Header and title to align to the left! Never had that happen before. I've tried to fix it, but to no avail. I don't like it!
Guess I better hush rambling, and go to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow; a busy week, in fact!

How marvellous Love and congratulations to your DIL! She has made wonderful quilty projects and is most deserving of her ribbons. The quilt shows look fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing all these images. We only have a few quilts shows and I missed all of them this year.
ReplyDeleteMuch deserved congrats to your DIL!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your day out with your friend was fulfilling, but exhausting. I love the look of quilt shows draped over pews--I've been to a couple like that. But you are right about not getting the full effect of each quilt.
Thanks for the quilt show, I love seeing all the wonderful quilts. Congratulations to your DIL, her ribbons are well deserved. She did a great job! Hope you are enjoying some sewing time, too!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your DIL! THe ribbons are well deserved. The quilters where my mom lives do a quilt show in the local chiurch every summer, with quilts filling the pews each year. It's certainly a different look than shows that can hang quilts for a full view, but it has its own charm. I think they have limited options for places to hold a formal hanging show and store stands and so on.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that your DIL won 2 ribbons at her first show!!! That is so cool! I love that HST quilt also and the Texas quilts! It seemed like all the quilt shows here were packed into September and October. We didn't go to shows that were more than about an hour away or we could have gone to more. I think now we will have to wait until spring.
