Where Was My Mind When I Decided to Make These 6.5" Blocks?!!

After finishing the Week 33 block, I decided to wait to show it until I had another block to go with it, so it will be included below with my other blocks. Again I got behind on my Moda Blockheads Blocks when Week 34 was another applique block.  (Have I told you I hate to do applique?  Yeah, I think I told you already.)

Of course, I've been making all my blocks in R/W/B, and choosing fabrics for Week 34 was a difficult thing for me.  I dug in my stash and found a dark background for the night sky, got all the house and ground pieces basted to make it easier for me.  However, when I started to baste the moon, I knew I'd never be able to get those corner points!   Here's how far I got; nothing yet appliqued down.

(I didn't like this a bit!)
I wasn't a happy camper at this point, so I laid the block aside and moved on to the next block, and the next, and on through Week 37, as weekly presented.  I was busy with other things, and decided not to post any of them until I finished Week 34 someday.    Well, about midnight last night, I finally "finished" Week 34.  I don't like it, but it is what it is!  I do like it better with the lopsided sun shining rather than the moon.   The others are not perfect either, but hey, they are done!  I'm finally caught up until next Wednesday!  I'm guessing that will be another applique block, drat it!  I've already closed my big Janome down until after Christmas (I think), so I'll be dragging out the Viking each week I guess --- maybe.

I should have just made a simple star!

Week 37
During the month since I last posted, I've also made some corrections in my first scrap quilt, posted previously, but here again.  I've also made a second scrap quilt.  For it, I just cut up almost all my purples and turquoise fabrics, and lots of muslin, and just randomly put the rectangles together, with no color selection order in mind really.  I think I did it out of frustration over Week 34 block!  Anyway, it too is what it is; whatever!  Both scrap quilts are on a hanger in the closet until after Christmas!

In preparation for Christmas, I've cleaned all the carpet in my home, and all but the sunroom and kitchen have had a thorough cleaning.  I've been dragging out a few Christmas decorations; got the Christmas wall hangings hung, and four Nativity scenes out.  My son fussed at me for starting that all too soon.  I told him it takes me four times as long now since I must have my cane in my right hand most of the time, and I would like to get it all decorated before New Year's!  I'm trying to decide whether I am able to have at least a couple of parties this year.  I really missed having all my friends here last year.  He will have to help me get the big boxes of decorations down from the top shelves in the closet after Thanksgiving.   He and his wife are having the Thanksgiving dinner, and I'll be there, along with all her family.  She cooks the best turkey I've ever eaten.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and "thankful" Thanksgiving!

'Til next time -----

  2. Your Block Heads blocks are all beautiful, wonky sun or not. When it's all done you'll be glad you put in the effort. And it's your quilt, make it daytime if you want! The quilt tops are also beautiful - you've gotten a lot done in a month. And if I lived much closer, I'd offer to come over and lug your boxes of decorations around so you could deck the halls to your hearts content, cane or not! (Sadly, there are just a few too many miles...)

  3. I love all the RWB blocks! Your little house is very cute, your fabrics make it so fun! I love applique but I do the fusible style. Fuse the fabrics to the background, no seam allowance needed, and blanket stitch around them. That's my favorite way and I like the primitive look to it. Enjoy getting ready for Christmas, hope you get to do some entertaining. I know you love it and so do your friends. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, too!

  4. I'm with you Love - applique is not my thing. Especially when the finished block is only six inches! It turned out well regardless and all the blocks look fantastic. I should probably start preparing for Christmas in August because I'm no where near were I need to be.

  6. I love both of your scrap quilt tops, and of course your Block Head blocks are beautiful. I especially like Week 36.
We have already had lots of snow and cold weather, so all of the Christmas lights and decorations that people are starting to put up look right at home.
Happy Thanksgiving, and good luck lugging all of those boxes around!
