Surprise! I Got A Block Made Today!

I've still been busy dragging out Christmas things, but I'm slowly getting there.  My son will come tomorrow to help set up the big tree in the sunroom; don't know when I'll get it decorated.  It IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here.

I had closed my Janome down, but decided since it wasn't yet covered with Christmas, I'd open it again and make my Block Heads Week 38 Block.  As you know, I'm not always known as one who choses fabrics wisely.  For some reason I wanted to make this one in just red and white stipes and a solid white.  Not sure that was a good decision, but it is what it is!  At least, if I squint my eyes, I can see the pinwheel in the center, and the stripes there are all going the same way.  The rest is a little confusing to me.  I almost decided to make the hourglass blocks my usual method, but thought maybe I had better follow the instructions given.  I'm just glad it's done!
Week 38
Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I fixed candied sweet potatoes and made a big chocolate pound cake and a beautiful chocolate pie to take to my son's for dinner.  He came to the car to help carry everything into the house.  He had the cake and pie, and got about half-way to the front door when the pie carrier collapsed, and my beautiful 10" pie fell to the sidewalk!  Glass, homemade chocolate pudding, and meringue went all over the sidewalk and into the grass!  So much for the requested chocolate pie!  I'm just glad I had made a big cake also.  He learned a lesson that he won't soon forget; always have a hand under whatever dish you are carrying; the top handle is NOT the correct way to carry food!  As usual, his wife's turkey and the other things were delicious!  We had a good time in spite of missing the pie.

Don't know when I'll be sewing again; probably not before Christmas.  Then again, maybe I will.  Time will tell I guess.

  1. I love your new block! I think it looks perfect! Before we left on Saturday, I had time to cut the pieces for the most recent 2 blocks in 2 different color ways each. I might have some time to sew while on the trip (we're in Kansas now) and I bought my featherweight along as well as quite a few already cut projects to sew together including some star blocks and log cabin blocks to make into table runners or whatever. Too bad about the pie!! Couldn't he have scraped up a little of it? No, I guess not.

  2. Oh what a shame about your pie! Any chance you might be persuaded to share the recipe? I think the stripe block looks just fine. The Christmas tree goes up this weekend. The rest to follow.

  4. Great block, I love the stripped fabric. It really adds some zing! Sorry to hear about the pie, it sounded so good. Yes, always support things with one hand underneath!
