July 4, 2018, and I'm Disappointed!

On April 14, I showed the first blocks of my blue stars, and said I'd keep making blocks, not knowing how large the top would end up being.  Well, I should have stopped at that point!   Here it is the evening of July 4, 2018, and I still have not finished it!  I got myself into a larger job than I realized and also I've had lots of interruptions over these last three months, besides being just plain lazy I guess.

I quilted on it most of last Saturday, Sunday afternoon, Monday, and again today, and had to give up!  Now that July 4 is over, I will probably slack up on it even though I really want to get it finished.  I still have to quilt the red sashing blocks, do a lot of tying and tucking threads in some of the star blocks, and then bind it.  This was an experiment in using the walking foot throughout, and I have, and I guess it's a good thing I did with all the straight lines (except in the stars).

I'm just disappointed that I didn't get it finished before today, my second favorite day of the year!

As I mentioned in my last post, my DIL and I will be going to a quilt retreat later this month, and I have to get my things together for that so I can be ready to sew when we get there rather than cutting fabric!   There's several other things around here I have to take care of also, like a haircut, a day with my son (he wants to take me somewhere Friday; I know not where for sure!), and of course, bills have to be paid before leaving town!

So---after tomorrow, the blue stars may have to go on hold until we return.   It won't matter anyway.  I will make sure to finish it though, so it will be ready for next July 4.  Just for a reminder, here's where it started out three months ago.  It is much larger now!

Hope all of you enjoyed your July 4.  My son and DIL were busy today too, and we didn't get together this year.  I just wanted to quilt, and I think she did too.  I did watch the big fireworks shows on TV tonight.

Maybe I'll have something more interesting to share next post.

  4. No one can ever accuse you of being lazy!
If you keep at it, you could have it finished for Labor Day (not nearly the same motivation as the 4th, I know). :)
It is a really striking design!

  7. Not everything can get finished on schedule as life does get in the way. I know you will have a great time at the retreat! So nice to have your DIL going along with you. Can't wait to see what you come up with to work on while there.
