Borders on Quilter's Quotes Quilt

I finally finished all those little 4-patches for the border around my Quilter's Quotes Quilt, and got them stitched on, along with a narrow white border so I wouldn't have to deal with all those seams when it's time to put the binding on someday in the future!  The white border doesn't show against the white design wall in the picture, but it is there and will show with the binding is on.  While all those 30's fabrics were still out, I decided to go ahead and make the pieced binding so it will be ready when that time comes.   I had just enough of the dark navy to put in the corners, which ties a bit to the dark navy squares in the middle of the quilt.  That fabric truly is from the 30's repro fabrics, but it almost seems out of place in the center, so I thought the corners would help tie things together maybe.

These are the lower quotes.

Binding Preview; of course, it will be only half that wide finished.
It took me longer to make that checkerboard border than to make the entire center at the retreat!  The binding wasn't difficult, but it too took more time.  Now I've got to decide on a backing, which will delay a finish a bit.

I'm still trying to get life back to normal, whatever that is.  I pulled weeds and grass in the rose garden this morning while it was actually cooler.  I hope to finish it quickly in the morning before it get too hot.  I watered a bit today, so they should pull up easier.

Then I will have no excuse to keep me from doing a little housecleaning before I get started on quilting again.  I'm not sure what will be next.  I need to actually "quilt" something!  I'm still working on hand stitching  the binding on the back of My Blue Stars while watching TV at night.  Will probably get that finished tomorrow; didn't get it done in July!  Oh dear me!  I just this moment realized I haven't made a label for it!  I'm glad I have already stitched that last corner down!

I've really enjoyed reading lost of nice blogs lately; sorry I haven't always taken time to comment.  I'll try to do better.

  1. A beautiful finish! Love the colors and the blue corners bring out the darker color in the main part of the quilt.

  2. The border looks wonderful, but I can see how it would take a while! The blue does look a bit out of place in the photo, but I'd guess it looks better in person. And hey, it's your quilt, so do what you like! I, too, try to get chores done early so I can sew, guilt-free, the remainder of the day. We had rain here last night, but I have a cupcake competition to bake for today, so the weeds can wait...

  4. I just love those reproduction fabrics. (I think I have some put away somewhere.) The dark blue squares don’t look quite so dark when your photos are enlarged, plus they provide some contrast. Can’t wait to see your blue stars quilt. How many patriotic quilts are currently in your possession? Might a retrospective be in order? Just a thought.

  5. Really pretty quilt, and the sayings a fun addition.
I think the navy corners do tie it all together nicely.
You are a busy lady and now you have made me feel guilty enough that I think I will go outside and water something. :)

  6. Love the four patches border. Made the quilt look much more interesting. =) I tend to do boring borders or no borders. I get lazy and in a hurry to finish. ;-) Yours is inspiring. =)

  7. I love it! Thanks for re=doing the photos so I could read the quotes better. I'll have to watch for that panel. I also love a scrappy binding. I recently got a lot of really good sized 30's fabric when I went to Grandma's Attic in Dallas, OR. I was there when they dumped a huge batch of scraps into the bin and I squeezed as much as I could into a plastic bag for $4.99. I plan to make one or more Chinese Coin baby quilts from them - or I might come up with something different. Why do I do this to myself? I really don't need to buy scraps!
