Monday when the alarm went off at 7 AM, I hopped out of bed and made it up right quick so I wouldn't be tempted to get back in it! Then I got dressed before I came down the hall to the kitchen for breakfast. After my morning routine of Bible reading while eating my breakfast, I surveyed the utility room (what a mess!) and decided to look into the pantry. What a shock as I began to check "Best by" dates on the bottom of things! I really don't use many canned things, but almost everything, and I do mean everything, was way past that date! That did it! I grabbed the trash can and began unloading things! I filled the can three times of expired things! What a waste! But over on some cabinets in the same area were a lot of things I had bought, probably since last Fall that I had been using from. After I got all the OLD stuff in the trash, there was room to get all the newer stuff in the pantry. The utility room and the pantry both look so much better! Sorry; no pictures there!
That activity had gone so well that after lunch I decided to tackle my sewing closet in the sunroom.
(So far, that's not going too well, but I don't give up easy; remember?) I decided to work on the lower level of that closet, beginning on the left side, where plastic tubs full of fabric were stacked. I removed everyone of the tubs on that side and piled them in the sunroom floor. (Remember that the sunroom was a wreck all of January while I cleaned the other big closet in that room! Will the sunoom ever be presentable again???!)
In the back corner of that closet was a pile of dirt and dead tiny ants that had invaded the area last summer! I had put out ant poison at the front of the closet, but never got to the far corner! I'm glad all my fabric was in sealed plastic tubs! Okay; that mess got cleaned up, but the tubs are still all over the sunroom! And.....they will be there for several days probably. I was really tired last night after staying after it until 7 PM!
This morning again I got up at 7 AM, and after my morning routine, I decided to sort all those tubs of fabric by color and then properly fold each piece properly and put it all back in the tubs so that I can see what's there! So now I'm stacking it, of all places, all over the back bedroom bed! Of course, Christmas, Civil War, and patriotic fabrics were in marked tubs, but just thrown in the tubs sometimes; shame, shame! However, all those fabrics I bought at the flea market and other places were not really sorted or folded properly, but it will be before it goes back in the closet! That's going to be a big job, and that's just the bottom portion of half of the closet! But through patience and perseverance, I will get it done!
On Sunday I had cut lots of little pieces of embroidery for my new project, and today, for a break before lunch, I got three blocks sewn together! (No, I'm not going to abandon that project!) Here's what I got done today. I've decided not to do the fancy stitches, but rather just plain straight (sometimes not!) top-stitching really close to the seams.

It's warmer here today (and yesterday) and will be for the next few days, thank goodness! The sun is even shining again! I'd love to be outside trimming the roses, but that will have to wait, at least until next week. Don't want my arms torn up and bloody when I go to a funeral!
So----what are you up to this week? Having fun, or doing dirty work, like me? Hope you're having fun!
I've got to go sort lots of fabric by colors!

You have some fabulous embroidered bits in your new blocks! How large will your quilt be? At this end, I've been working on 'squirrels' and finally beginning to see the light of day. Hopefully a post with some pictures in a couple days. We're still in the midst of snow and high winds, hoping for a better day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow lady! If you think MY posts make you tired, you should read one of yours! It sounds like you're in spring cleaning mode...I'm feeling a little of that myself with some extra tidying chores done in the sewing room today. The blocks are continuing to look fantastic and this is going to be one spectacular quilt. I wish our weather was rose-pruning weather...we've gotten about 5" of snow the last couple of days, but at least the temperatures are in the 20s and not the negatives any more! (But it's a good time of year to be a quilter because you'll never be cold if you use what you make!)
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYour persistence inspires me!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am loving each of these dainty blocks you are creating from the stitched linens!
I haven't been sewing much, but I have a small quilt swap deadline to meet the end of the month, so when I get a few minutes in the sewing room, that is what I am doing.
Your blocks are so pretty! Yes, I noticed the cut work over blue. So lovely. I have been doing some organizing as well, although I'm not being as thorough as you are. I took all the fabric out of my fabric closet and organized into colors - as it used to be, but it had gotten all messed up because I would just cram fabrics in there when I wasn't sure what I wanted to so with them, such as long strips cut off of quilts after quilting them, etc. I found several projects and fabrics that I had forgotten about, so my list of UFOs has grown (even though it hadn't been written down before). This morning I got up about 4:00 and decided to start in on a stack of fabric scraps to see if there was anything I could use them for and I put them in various stacks for projects I can make or cut some into strips for strip blocks. Yesterday I made 4 bags out of canvas left over from making my ironing table. I just need to get more strapping to finish 2. 2 are all finished with cute appliqué on them. I will take pictures to post. In between these projects, I have been quilting the embroidered state bird blocks and am more than half way done with those. I'm also donating some of the fabric that I know I won't be using. Good luck with the rest of your organizing!!
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely in Spring cleaning mode and making progress. I have some outdated things in my pantry, too. Gotta go through and clean that stuff out. I also hate to waste it, but it happens. Sorting and folding fabric sounds like so much more fun. Once it is done, you will feel so good! Your blocks are beautiful, you have collected some gorgeous blocks. Overlaying some of them really adds interest and shows off the beautiful edgings. Don't wear yourself out!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you’re putting on your Weeties to give that pep and zip will you please share? I keep a pretty lean pantry these days after a similar clean out a few years ago. It’s amazing how much you can fit into a closet so I can imagine what it looks like when you take it all out! Your embroidered blocks are so beautiful.
