Three More Blocks, and More Fun!

Just so you know, our freezing weather hit during last night, and I've been cold all day!  My hands are like ice!  I guess I'll be forced to wash dishes in hot water to thaw out!  The weatherman is predicting we may get some sleet/snow overnight.   I really hope not!  It is already happening near Waco, several miles south of here.

I got three more blocks finished today.  This directional stuff is messing up my mind.  I had cut some pieces like I thought would sew in 'upright', but when they went into a block with other pieces, they somehow turned the wrong direction.  Oh well, let's just say it adds more interest.    Also I didn't find working with all those bias-cut edges always easy to work with!

Block 8

Block 9
Block 10
I also tried more fancy stitches on the top stitching after sewing each seam, and again ran into a few problems.  I didn't break any needles today, but my machine didn't like crossing over those fat seams on those fabrics that are heavier than our thinner quilting 100% cotton fabrics.  Consequently, there were a few stack-ups of stitches.  I first tried to rip them out, but decided that wasn't a good idea!  So ---- so be it!

I did not get out my traveling machine today.  I learned to stitch the same seam in all three blocks at the same time, and then do the top-stitching on all three blocks before proceeding with the next set of seams.  I finally got so tired of deciding on a different fancy stitch, I would just use the same stitch in all three blocks.  By the time for the last series of stitches, I was happy with just doing a straight top-stitching!  Not all of it is perfect, but it's okay by me!

I hope to open another tub of embroidery pieces tomorrow, which maybe will present some different looks.

Stay safe and warm  (or cool, depending on where you live, of course!).

  3. It sounds like you're working out a plan for making the blocks that works well for you. If I'm making a bunch of the same kind of blocks, I do that, too, though I'm not making anything as fancy as yours! The blocks are beautiful and I'm excited to see the finished quilt. In due time!
