I've either cut embroidery pieces or sewed them together almost every day last week, and got five blocks finished in spite of a lot of interruptions. I now have 23 blocks made. It is getting easier now, but I really need to cut a lot more to add more variety. I'm still learning with each block, but there are a few mistakes along the way that I'll have to deal with later. Here's this week's progress.

My church quilting buddy asked me to go to an estate sale with her Friday. I went with her, thinking I would find some embroidery pieces; not one piece was there! We then stopped by a couple of yard sales, and I bought a few yards of solid fabrics; didn't need them, but couldn't resist at those prices!
When I got home Friday afternoon, I had a phone message from my guy friend (I guess that's what I'll call him --- that's shorter than sewing machine collector friend), and he had been to another estate sale in Fort Worth. He brought me a big brown bag full of embroidery, some of it really nice! I've soaked it clean, and dried it tonight, and stacked it up. I'll have to iron it, maybe tomorrow. He's called again after another Estate sale at a quilter's home! He showed me pictures of the racks of fabric all folded up. He said, "You need more fabric, right?" He knew better, but said it was too good a deal to pass, so he will bring it to me one day this coming week. I think I'm going to have teach him to quilt so he will want to keep this stuff for himself! I'm out of room, time, and energy! His parents (my friends also) raised him to be a generous young gentleman, and I hate to discourage him because he loves what he is doing! He promised a lot of what he got me was patriotic, since I told him that's what I like.
Then Saturday night another young couple and their 20 yr. old son took me out to dinner, and then we visited in my home until almost 10 PM. I loved every minute of it, and I think they did too!
After church today my DIL came to use my computer a few minutes. Theirs went on the blink a while back, and they haven't gotten it fixed yet. We visited a few minutes after she finished; my son had to work today.
It's been a good week, but a bit crazy. Next week is looking busy already, with something happening every day until Friday! I'm already dreading having to get up earlier! I may have to take a break from the embroidery blocks to take care of a few other things. We'll see I guess.
Here it almost midnight again, so I guess I'll go hit the sack! At least I have my pj's on already, and the bed is turned down, ready for me to jump in.
Just wondering --- does the time change bother you as much as it bothers me?
Sleep well, everyone.

You have some wonderful friends! And yes, every quilter needs fabric, even with our closets brimming, there's always that elusive little piece that is just right for a quilt in progress! I don't like the time change either, and wish it was just set to one time for the entire year, don't even care which one.
ReplyDeleteThe newest blocks are another set of beautiful ones! And I see nothing wrong, so just take credit for a job well done! Power outages are sp frustrating, but I'm glad yours wasn't out too long. Even luckier that the weather wasn't too awful! As for thr time change...more than a week later, I still find myself converting the time to what it would have been before the clocks were moved, giving myself permission to sleep in later than I should. This is the first spring forward time change I've been through where I wasn't either in school or working full time that I can remember and it IS hard. With no regular set schedule (other than a few shifts a week at work that rarely stay consistent - so even that is inconsistent!), it's harder to adapt to the silly change. I'm in complete agreement - leave the darn clocks alone!!! Shift work schedules if it's a daylight thing for that job, but don't make the rest of us suffer!
ReplyDeleteThe time change does bother me and it seems to get worse each year! I, too, wish they would do away with it. Your new blocks are just as beautiful as the others you have made. You get better with each one you make! Your friend is so kind to be on the look out for fabric and embroidery pieces! What fun! You do keep busy and it is so good for you to have such wonderful friends to visit!
ReplyDeleteI think it is wonderful that you have someone looking out for vintage linens for you!
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of good people around you, and they obviously enjoy your company.
My sleep patterns are so erratic all the time anyway that one hour change one way or the other doesn't seem to make much difference to me.
Yes! I completely agree with hating the time change! I don't think it is helping anyone any more. I just had a chat with my quilting/craft show buddy and said that I really don't need to get fabric from garage sales any more, but it is too tempting, so I think I will still go to them. I just can't resist!! The weather has taken a very good turn here and the trees are just starting to blossom! The robins are hanging around and I hope they will build a nest here again. It's amazing that you get so many linens from your friend!! I might make a table runner using some, but I don't think I want to tackle a large quilt like you are planning. Wow! That is quite a project! Cant wait to see it finished!
