Here's the picture of a smaller Baby Cowboy quilt that will be more appropriate for a newborn little cowboy. It will measure 36" square when quilted and bound in red. Not enough scraps left to even save! Sorry the picture is a bit blurry, but you've seen those cowboys before anyway. Double-click to see the tiny checks in the 4-patches. That also seems to clear up the cowboys.

I believe I got the last vintage embroidery block finished yesterday; at least I hope so! The last numbered one is No. 62, six more blocks than the 56 I will need (I think). Those six will replace the six I'm removing (Nos. 5-10) because of the fancy stitches I used on them. It does look pretty, but it involved a lot of thread changes because I had to top-stitch every seam when stitched. Also I wondered how I would quilt the finished top, and thought that stitching might create a problem. I will make something with those six blocks someday.
This post will be picture heavy, but I'm including all the final ten blocks so I don't have to keep posting these very similar blocks again and again! I'm sure you are probably getting tired of them, and ready to see either them together, or something entirely different! So here goes:

This has been a l-o-o-o-o-o-ng process, but it would have been much longer had it not been for the help from my young friend who loves to go to estate sales. When he decided he wanted to help me, I told him I wanted mostly pastels; he said okay. His mother (wife of a classmate) told me later that he told her, "She wants mostly pastels. What in the world is a pastel?" We both had a big laugh, but I think he has done an excellent job for the most part, don't you? Furthermore, he has decided to take up quilting, and calls or comes by quite often for help or suggestions. I have to tell you he has lots of imagination, and his first top is looking very nice!
I'm going to sandwich the little baby quilt tonight, and get it quilted before retreat so I can finish the binding there. Tomorrow I'll start placing the embroidery blocks in order, and pinning their row/block number on them so I can work on them at retreat too.
That's about all I'll have going for a while, so I'll spend more time reading your blog posts than I will typing one; that's for sure! So get your machines going; I'll need something (s) pretty to look at!

The last of the blocks are gorgeous! That is going to be one showcase of a quilt, despite the initial trouble of your helper knowing what a pastel is! (That sounds like something my own hubby would ask!) The little cowboy quilt is adorable and will be loved I'm sure. And I guess I'd better get busy sewing so I have something to blog about...I've been making books and blocks from the 100 block challenge, but that's not a ton to show. Tomorrow, though, will be a longarming day, as temperatures will be tolerable without air conditioning...we went from early spring temperatures to SUMMER in just a few days. While I'm glad the threat of snow is gone, I also missed the nice temps of actual spring!
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy as a beaver with all these quilt blocks and the two baby quilts! I'm going to love seeing how you set the embroidered blocks, they have been such a labor of love. I hope your young friend will allow you to post a photo of his first quilt when he completes it, just think you've "birthed" a brand new quilter in your quest for pastels! Love it! Have fun at your retreat!
ReplyDeleteThe baby quilt is adorable, I love the way you put the fabrics together to make a great quilt. More gorgeous blocks, glad you are almost ready to put them together, can't wait to see how it works out. Your friend not knowing what pastel means is funny. It is great he is getting into quilting, hope he lets you post photos of his quilt here on your blog. I'd love to see what he is making.
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet little *brother* to the big quilt. Your embroidery blocks are fabulous and how marvellous to save all those beautiful embroideries that would otherwise be thrown away. Nice work Love.
