I Keep Making Progress Slowly!

Since last post, I actually got to go somewhere besides a doctor's office!  My classmate from Mississippi finally got to Texas last week, and this past Tuesday 17 of our classmates from 1956 got together at the home of the parents of my friend who brings me embroidery from estate sales.  His mother decided I wasn't able to have the gang gather in my home as usual, and she insisted we meet at their home.  Her son picked me up and took me, and then brought me home after it was all over.

We had a wonderful time remembering old times.  The guys all gathered around the tables with the notebooks I had worked so hard on.  In fact, the hostess had to tell them to close the notebooks and come to the den and visit with us girls.  Different ones shared funny stories from the past, and as usual we had more snacks than we could eat,  all of them delicious!  It was a fun afternoon!

Since then, all I've done is sew!  I've made a second baby cowboy quilt, just 36" inches square, for a tiny baby, to go with the first larger one.  I used scraps from the larger one, and have only a handful, literally, left over.  However, I will have to get a decent picture of it tomorrow for a later post.   Like the first, I intended to just get it cut and ready to work on at retreat, but just kept being driven to keep sewing!  I may even quilt this second one before retreat, and then finish the binding there.  Maybe!

Then I got started again on my vintage embroidery blocks.  I do have several pictures of those to show from a few days ago.  I think I'm getting close to having enough made, but I'll have to replace six blocks because of the fancy machine stitching I did on the seams before I decided not to do that to all of them.  Here's some of what I've made a few days ago.

Sorry, but for some stupid reason I cannot get the picture above to release and go back to my regular margin.
I've fought with it as long as I can stand it, so I'm posting it just like this!  I really didn't have anything more  to say anyway.   Hopefully it won't be long before another post.

Hope  everyone has a wonderful Sunday!

  1. Beautiful blocks! (As always!) I love the last one - it seems more orange than the others, but I'm a sucker for orange, so it's all good to me. I would just use the blocks you did fancy stitching on. Mix them all in and they'll be just fine. With all the other embroidery and fussy cutting and everything, I doubt it will be glaringly obvious and even if it is, so what? It will add interest. I look forward to seeing the second cowboy quilt and understand completely about getting so excited about a new project you can't help but go sew it all up!

  2. Love, sounds like your get together with friends was so much fun! Glad you got to go. The new blocks are all beautiful and I can hardly wait to see you start putting them together in a quilt!

  3. I agree with Katie (again), but this time it's about the fancy stitching you did on some of the blocks. I don't see a problem with including those in with the straight stitched ones. They are all lovely! So many pretty butterflies! You must be doing much better since you have been able to get a lot of sewing done. That is wonderful! Also, so nice that you were able to go to the party with your friends. You are very lucky to have been able to keep in touch with them all.

  4. The smaller quilt is as cute as the larger one and I think its a good idea to go to the retreat without too much to do there. This way you can visit more and see what everyone else is doing! Maybe you plan to put your embroidered blocks together there, which would be a good plan too. They are just gorgeous!

  5. So glad that you were able to spend the day with your old school chums. Your embroidery blocks are adorable and I agree with Katie & Ruth about including the fancy stitching ones.
