A Bit Gruesome to Some Maybe, But It's What I'm Working On Anyway!

I've had a good week since finishing my Vintage Embroidery quilt, (at least until today; more on that later)..

I think I've mentioned that I made a half-way commitment to donate a quilt for our  Firemen's  Association, not the "Fire Department".  'The Association raises funds to pay for the Annual Awards Banquet that they always invite me to attend.  When I saw the panel below, I knew I had to make it work some way for that donation quilt.  I've added a couple more narrow black and red borders, and also the outer border of blocks which were in strips so that was easy.  I have more fire fabric, and will show more progress as it occurs.  Here's what I have on the design wall so far.

Here's a part of what happened here today.  My friend and her son came and brought lunch from Chicken Express, and then she and I laid out her 64 big log cabin blocks on my guest bed.  Of course, the bed was not large enough so we had to also use my bed also.  We were bending a lot, and we just kept getting hotter and hotter.  Finally about 4 PM, I said I had to take a break and get some ice water..  As I came into the kitchen, I checked the AC thermostat, which said it was 85 degrees!  I usually keep it on 77 for me, with the ceiling fans on.   I checked out the window, and the outside unit was operating, so I turned it off and waited a while.  Then I turned it back on, and went outside to check, and sure enough, it was blowing cold air out the top of the unit instead of hot air as it should have been.  (Years ago I worked for an AC place, and my boss showed me how to check that.)   I came back in,  and turned it off again.  We were really hot, and I was really flustered in addition, but we did get her all her blocks lined out and numbered so she can sew them together at home.  By then, it was almost 6 PM, and I was so hot, I just wanted to sit down under the fan as soon as they left, and here it is almost midnight, and that literally is all I've done, except watch a little football.  First thing Monday morning, I'll be calling the AC repairman!    Weatherman said we may get a tiny cool wave Sunday afternoon; that would be great!  I may have to go shopping Sunday afternoon just to stay cool.  My plan is to go to church in the morning, as I do every Sunday.

So --- I wonder what everyone else has been up to this past week, or what you have planned for next week.

  1. I love the quilt! It is wonderful and I'm sure it will be a big hit for the banquet. Sorry to hear of the AC issues, hope it does cool off a little for you until you can get it repaired. Also hope it is not too expensive, it is more fun to spend money on fabric than repairs!

  2. I like where you are going with this quilt and it will surely be a big hit with your fire association friends. I hope you get a longer "cool wave" until your A/C can be repaired. Isn't that always the case, the A/C goes out on the hottest days and the furnace stops on the coldest snowiest night of the year.

  3. That is going to be a wonderful quilt!
Oh, I don't know how you kept going in 85 degree temps! I would have been standing in a cold shower.
Hope you got it all figured out and are comfortable once again!

  4. Yes! That will be a perfect quilt for the Fire Association raffle! Hope you have your A/C fixed by now. I have heard from another friend how hot it has been in TX. I hate to brag, but it was 32 degrees here this morning (maybe you wouldn't like that very much either! I'm fine with it, though.
