Last week while helping a friend with her quilt, another friend dropped by for a short visit. She watched as we were laying out blocks on my bed, and later, just before she left, she asked me for a favor. She asked, "Sometime would you make just one block for me to remember you by?" (She is not a quilter and is about 20 years younger than I am; I guess she thinks I'll be gone soon, and she may be right.) Of course, I told her I would be glad to make a block for her.
She loves patriotic things, and she loves pink, lacy things, and she loves growing flowers. Well, I had no idea where I was headed ---R/W/B or pinks, or what? I opened the drawer in my sewing closet, and the first thing I saw was a printed fabric that I don't even remember ever having. I guess I must have made something with it in the past, maybe a vest, or whatever. Anyway, I pulled it out of the drawer, got my 15.5" ruler, and yes, it would be perfect! Then I looked for pink for the binding, and yes, I found that too! What's even better, I got to practice using my ruler foot and straight ruler. I quilted the top Sunday afternoon and finished the binding last night. Here's the result.
I hope she will like it! She will be surprised when she comes again for a visit; she always just drops in; no warning. I'm sure it won't be long from now that she will be here. She is so good to me and calls me a couple of times a week just to check on me.
I am so blessed with so many friends! The one I'm helping with her quilt just called and needs to come this afternoon so I can show her how to do her setting triangles. We always have fun too!
Hope you are blessed with lots of good friends too.

Love, this is beautiful! Something kind of similar happened to me. A friend said to me, ‘When you die, I want your appliqué quilt!’. Hope you and I last a bit longer, lol!
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable, I'm sure she will treasure it. It is sweet of you to make it for her and so sweet that she keeps an eye on you, too. Glad you have some really good friends!
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet little piece, sounds perfect for your friend. You're brave quilting with rulers. One of my friends had one of those rulers slip just a little when she was quilting, and the needle hit the ruler, resulting in an expensive trip to the repair shop. Her machine is one of those sit-down semi longarm machines. I think I'll stay with my free motion and hope for the best!
ReplyDeleteShe will be thrilled by that little remembrance of you. It is awfully cute.
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to hear that you have many friends checking in.
That is so CUTE!! It will be the perfect thing for her to remember you by. She might not have been thinking you will "Go" soon, but one never does know. I don't mind talking about it, I just hope I have a chance to finish things and clean up first! BTW, I'm listening to the youtube piano music you linked us to. I love to hear traditional hymns.
