As you probably know, I haven't done much free motion quilting in the past, so this panel was really a challenge for me because I was determined to do free motion on it, even if I ruined it. I'm sure some of you will think that's what I did, but I did my best, and it's good enough for me! I do admit there are lots of mistakes, but I can live with them.
It measures 52" x 34", and will be hung over my bed because the big pink rose is the same color as my bedspread, (which I might add is now covered by my vintage embroidery crazy quilt; I decided to use it myself rather than leave it for someone else to enjoy or sell someday). (How's that for a run-on sentence?) The panel is about the same width as my bed's headboard, and I think it will look great there.
I'm not sure just when it will get hung, because I'll have to wait until my son has time to do it for me, and he's working lots of hours every day now. It should be relatively easy to hang because fortunately, I have one long "Hang It, Dang It" rod that will let it hang with only one nail. I love those rods, but I've never used my long one, only my shorter ones, so that may be a new experience too. I'll have to remove a pretty flower arrangement picture and six little china rose plates, but that's where I want this new panel to hang. I'll show another picture when I get it hung.
Now, promise not to laugh when you look at these pictures, okay?

Now that's a LOT of free motion quilting for this 82-year old lady, who is basically a beginner in free motion quilting! I'm just glad it done, and I'll be happier to get it hung, hopefully next week.
I had a quiet Mother's Day because my son had to work all day, but he and his wife sent me some beautiful pink flowers that I've really enjoyed.
I've made a couple of masks, one for my neighbor, and one for me, which I'll probably never wear because I seldom leave my house, and right now I don't have any definite doctor appointments, can you believe? My doctor's nurse did call today just to check on me; I though that was nice.
I haven't fallen in almost three weeks now, but I'm really holding on to my walker and/or cane with every step; I just cannot walk without those.
I got my air conditioning unit checked yesterday by the nicest service man that's ever been to my house, bar none! What's even better, he said my unit was working fine, and didn't even need any freon. First time that's ever happened I think! I just hope it holds up through the summer. They've been telling me for three or four years I better be saving my nickels and dimes, because my unit is really old! But I always have it serviced every Spring and Fall, and I also change the filters often.
I made some chocolate chip cookies today, so I think I'll hush here and go eat a couple before I get ready for bed.
Stay safe, stay well, and most of all, stay happy!

No apologies needed for your free motion quilting, this quilt is exquisite! It will be a gorgeous backdrop for your embroidered crazy quilt. I'm glad to hear that you are using that wonderful quilt after all the effort you put into creating it. Good to hear that you haven't fallen recently, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful!!! Including the quilting. Period. I have 2 hang it dang it quilt hangers and love them. I use the large one to hand large quilts on my living room wall. Well, actually DH does the hanging. He gets up on a ladder (I hold it steady) and he can hang any quilt with one arm. Good news about not falling for 3 weeks!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt and I think the quilting is wonderful. It will look great by your bed. Glad to hear there have been no falls in a while. That is great news, hold on tight and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI think your quilting on that panel is gorgeous, and really highlights the design.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful Mother's Day bouquet.
Oh, now I want to make some chocolate chip cookies, but I would never be able to stop at "a couple."
The quilting looks great to me! But we're always our own worst critics. I made cookies yesterday, too - chocolate chip. I guess we were on the same wavelength! I'm glad to hear you've had no falls and even more glad to see quilting progress. I hope to make some of my own tomorrow...
