I had no choice but to do it like that because I can't drive myself to the fabric store anymore, and my friends went yesterday before I realized what a fix I was in for this backing. I hope I have enough fabric left for the binding.
I hope to get the quilt sandwiched tomorrow, if my legs will hold me up. I had wanted to finish this quilt for my son for Father' Day, but that won't be happening. I had lots of company drop in the last ten days, and my son also made some unexpected drop-ins, with a phone call only a few minutes before his arrival. I had to hide the pieces of the top in the closet in a hurry; I was working on it when he called from a few blocks away! He is scheduled to be off work Thursday again, so I guess that will be another day lost for the quilting, lest he catch me working on it.
If my day goes as I'm hoping, I should get it sandwiched tomorrow afternoon. I have a big grocery order being delivered in the morning from HEB; it will take a while to get that all put away.
Catch you later.

Your backing looks great Love - there's nothing wrong with that at all. It actually makes it a double sided quilt. Hopefully you'll be able to get some work done on it without him seeing it.
ReplyDeleteLots of visitors is a good thing, though, right? (But they do take away from quilting time...) Your son will understand if the quilt is late. Any member of a quilter's family learns that early on! And the back does look like a boring bedspread (like something you might find in a hotel, in fact!), but it gets the job done. I'm not sure I've hit 9 pieces for a quilt back, but I'm pretty sure I did a throw that had five! Now I just buy too much on purpose! (And then wonder what to do with the leftovers...but I'm glad I can afford to be a little frivolous that way.) I hope your body behaves itself and you can get this quilt done in record time!
ReplyDeleteI think you made a beautiful backing using up those long strips. The back I just made was three wide strips.
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves symmetry, so your backing would make him very happy. :)
Nothing wrong with that backing. Good luck in getting the quilt finished. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to over do yourself just to get his gift finished on time. Give it to him unfinished and then finish it after Father's day!
ReplyDeleteThat backing is just fine! I'm all in favour of using up fabric in quilt backs. You may think it looks like a dull old bedspread, but I think it looks more interesting than a single fabric (though there's nothing wrong with that either).
ReplyDeleteI like pieced backings, they give the quilt a lot more interest and using up more fabric is a good thing. Once it is quilted it will look even better!
