After I finished the last stitch on the binding, when I was doing the experimental folding, I realized there was red blood on the label! I knew a pin had stuck me, but I didn't realize I was bleeding to death! Sure enough, blood was in several places, front and back! I panicked, of course, but grabbed the bottle of Peroxide from my sewing closet and doused each spot of blood I could find. Fortunately, the next morning, there was no sign of blood anywhere except one place I had missed. So it got doused with Peroxide, and it disappeared too, with no damage at all to the quilt, thank goodness!
Here's several pictures I took this morning while the sun was out. It measures 62" x 52", perfect for use in his recliner. (The words are from a panel from Home a la Mode, Denison, Texas.)
| I decided to put this strip on the back so he will see it when he pulls his quilt up in his chair. Label is also in the corner to the right of this strip. |
Now I'm having to wait until he has a day off from work so I can give it to him. I hope he will like it, and I think he will. All of the sayings in the blocks express my feelings for him precisely! I love the two in the last line: "You are my Sonshine. my only Sonshine; You make me happy when skies are gray. You never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my Sonshine away." We used to sing that together when he was a little boy, and he is 57 now!
Needless to say, I love my son with all my heart!

What a wonderful quilt! Your son is sure to love it and if he doesn't, well, he is a fool! The quilting looks great and I'm sure that little bit of off center back will not bother him one bit. I hope you are doing well outside of the quilting projects. It seems the blood loss was not fatal, but I do hate that when you find you were bleeding and didn't even know it - I bleed easily, so I know this problem all too well!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful quilt with lots of nice sentiment. I am sure he will treasure it. It is so easy to get stuck and bleed on a quilt in progress. Glad the peroxide did the trick to take it out. This is a very special quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet gift for you son! I'm sure it will mean the world to him--even a little of your blood would probably have been welcome. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, he will love it!! Isn't it wonderful to have grown sons - men? Our oldest son and his 2 kids in their 20s were over last night to celebrate a late father's day, because he was visiting one of our other sons on the actual father's day. It was good to have the 3 of them here together since our DGD, who had been living in Washington state, has now moved back to this area with her DH. It's hard to believe that our son who was here and is our oldest will be 55 in November! Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteOh Love - what a sweet message on the back of the quilt. The ones on the front are good too. That's a very special gift indeed. As for Whitmans - I like the molasses chew best.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is perfect. I copied the saying on the back to include on the label for a quilt I am making for my son's 50th birthday.
