Been busy, busy, not all necessarily quilting! And next week doesn't look much better!
I did get something accomplished on the two patriotic quote quilts. I removed the tops, including the titles, and re-wrote them with a chisel-tipped broader pen, and got them back on the quilts. I'm very much pleased with the improvement; the first ones just were not bold enough to read easily. Then I checked measurements and squaring; had to make a minor adjustment (1/4") on one, which meant I had to remove the borders on one corner and then re-sew them. Friday I went to Hobby Lobby to get the backing fabric. I needed six 90" lengths for both quilts. Would you believe they had enough fabric for only five strips? So I will have to go back Monday week when the new order comes in. I may get one to the quilter this week, but will have to wait on the other! I'm excited about getting them finished before long!
I received an e-mail from one of my favorite quilts shops, with the following website showing how to make a pillowcase easily. I like to make a matching pillowcase in which to store each quilt. You might enjoy this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrYWCma9wgM I'm going to try it next time; looks easier than what I usually do.
I'm going to TRY to get some quilting done this week, but I don't know how or when! I'm scheduled for three days to be away from home almost all day; two of them will be with quilters, so maybe that will count?
Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments on my APQ wall hanging; I'm going to get back to that soon, and also try to catch up on Christmas projects!

Christmas projects? Yikes! Don't worry too much about not getting lots of quilting done. I think you've seen all us APQers go through phases, so I think it's safe to say it's normal. But I do look forward to seeing pictures when you get quilting again.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the patriotic quilts again. Thanks for the link :) Christine
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like a lot of work to me but as long as you are happy with the results, it is worth it. I just love your patriotic quilts, especially the border you put on them. They are beautiful! Have fun no matter if you are quilting or visiting with other quilters!
ReplyDeleteI made a doll pillowcase this way and it came out quite well. I love that there are no raw edges to finish inside. I keep meaning to get around to regular sized ones...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week and your time with oyther quilters. You'll get back to quilting in good time.

Life gets so busy, and sometimes I really do wish we could have a couple more hours in the day just to sew! But hey, I don't think I've ever heard of a quilter (or any crafty person) being bored!
ReplyDeleteIt's good enough to be busy no matter what you are achieving. Your patriotic quilts are superb. Enjoy the time spent with your quilting friends. Hmmmm, I need to catch up on some Christmas projects too. Cheers, Ann :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to store your quilts--I will figure in extra yardage next time. Thank you so much for including me in your APQ wall hanging. You'll probably have yours completed before we do! I thought of you the other day when I read in a local paper (not much more than a flyer really) that the school board is considering dropping penmanship, cursive or whatever the current term may be...Can you imagine? Your handwriting is so pretty on your quilts that I immediately thought of you. Wouldn't it be awful if future generations printed everything? Enough of that silly stuff! Enjoy your days with quilting friends! Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Love, thanks for your comments on the baby quilt. Yes, I'm going to bind it in the dk blue. The back is the light blue plaid. I'm going to take your advice and quilt it on the diagonal. I know just what you mean about busy. Unfortunately, I haven't had alot of time for sewing either lately. Connie204
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you for your comments, and Mary, a special thank you to you for your comment on my handwriting. And yes, it will be very sad when no one knows how to write, or do math without calculator, or make change without a cash register that shows the change due! WHAT ARE WE AND OUR SCHOOLS THINKING??!! I was fortunate to have elementary teachers who made our class practice handwriting. Then in eighth grade, we had a man teacher whose handwriting was beautiful. The first day in his class, without saying a word, he wrote on the blackboard one word: Procrastination! Then he said, "I do not tolerate that well; does anyone know what the word means?" None of us knew, but he told us of course. I was really impressed by his beautiful penmanship. The next thing he did was tell us we would all learn to write properly because he didn't want to have to figure out what we were trying to write. He made us practice writing ovals and push/pulls at least ten minutes everyday. I got pretty good at it, and it just stuck with me all these years! Thanks for noticing! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteLove, we had to practice penmanship too. The nuns would make us do drills at school and some at home as well. I still doodle those loops sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you poppped in to say hi. We always like to know what our blogging buddies are up to no matter what it is.
Make sure you don't get too busy. Have a good week.
Enjoy your time away with your quilting friends.
ReplyDeleteYou will find more energy when you return.
Thanks too for the link!
