I Told the Quilt Shop I Won't Be Back!

This week I've not practiced my free-motion as much as I should have; what a slacker I'm getting to be! However, I did get two more Civil War blocks made.

On Wednesday I began planning one of the two little quilts I want to make for a special couple. (These were supposed to be Christmas gifts, but those 15 little donation quilts got in the way! I hope I can finish these before warm weather!) I started pulling fabrics from my stash to go with the bird fabric I had bought last fall for hers, but found I didn't have enough of one blue Moda Marbles fabric, nor for the backing, so a trip to the store about 20 miles away was necessary on Thursday. The quilt store didn't have that fabric in stock, and Hobby Lobby didn't have the backing fabric either!

The quilt shop did have some Civil War fabric on sale so I bought these as though I needed them! (Had to buy a yard each to get the sale price!)

I was a little more than upset, and decided to go about twenty miles to another town to find the Moda Marbles; they didn't have it either; nor did they have anything I wanted to go with the colors I thought I wanted to use. I just kept looking all over the store about an hour probably, and only one other customer came in, so the clerks were all trying to help me. I finally changed the color scheme, and focused more on finding more masculine fabrics for his that would coordinate with hers. This is what I brought home from there:
Actually I didn't get the lightest pink and blue there that day. I had a small piece of the blue, but wanted more, so I went back to the first quilt store on Friday and got the light blue and pink. The picture doesn't show the true colors; the birds will be for hers, the dark wine marbles will back both. I think they will coordinate okay, with fabrics mixed in both. I got their housekeeper to get paint chips for me to match their room and furniture, and I think the colors will be perfect!

Thursday night I had added up how much I've spent on fabric in January, and I was in a state of shock! So Friday as I signed my bank account away, I told my favorite quilt store owner, "That's it! I won't be back! I'm NOT buying any more fabric this year!" She just laughed, and said they wouldn't look for me back before next Monday. *grin*

I got his cut out today and about half of it laid out to sew into rows and then quilt the rows "as you go" style. I like the way it looks, but will wait to show it. I'm going to have to re-design hers; I'm winging it on my own on it --- no pattern! You'll see why later.

Gee, it's late, and I'm just rambling! Got to get to bed!

By the way, I'm having problems opening a few blogs too!

Have a great Sunday!

  1. Two quilt shops and still not what you wanted? How frustrating, but it looks like you got some great Civil War fabrics and your new color scheme looks great. I can't wait to see what you're doing for both quilts. I'm sure they'll both be wonderful. (I'm having trouble with some blogs, too...)

  2. You will have to let us know how long you go before going back to the shop for another fabric purchase.

  3. The blocks & fabrics are great! I especially like the yellow & blue stripe. I haven't bought much fabric so far this year, so I'm good to go. Hee Hee! We aren't good to go home tho. We're still stuck in Vicksburg!! The part needed "might" get here today, but we are ready to spend another weekend. If it gets fixed by tomorrow, we'll be home Sat. We are hoping so.
