| About 20" square; made from scraps handed to me. Forgot to measure it. |
I think there will be maybe 7 or 8 other table toppers in the basket, for different seasons. You would know I got to do the patriotic one. I stitched a single little star stitch in the the very center of each block to at least tie it down in the middle of those squares.
The third one is made from the same pattern as my wild flower quilt, but that one will have larger blocks and arranged differently (to be described at another time). This one is set very plainly, and here again, I had a directional fabric to deal with. You will never know how many times I've questioned myself about why I bought that printed line "Pledge of Allegiance" fabric! While I've used it several times, it almost always creates a problem, and it did again this time --- until I stood back and looked at the completed quilt, trying to decide on a name. I haven't checked back, but I think I told you the quilt pattern name is "7 Wonders Whacky Quilt". Okay, now I'm standing looking at the quilt, and the quilt very clearly told me its name ---"Why Do We Whack Up Our Pledge?" --- Good name, don't you think, and surely it is a good question!

| Just wanted to show my crazy quilting! |
She said she had heard me and some of our other quilters talking about being rushed to get a quilt ready for the auction, and she thought about one she had received as a gift 3-4 years ago. Because she has dogs in her home, she didn't want to use it; it is just too gorgeous to let something happen to it, so she stored it away.
She said a friend had bought the quilt at a little country church auction that was held to raise funds to send kids to church camp (same reason as ours). Then the friend gave it to her as a birthday gift. (What a good friend!) Later she learned that her nephew had been saved at a church camp. She coupled that thought with our current need for funds to send our church kids to camp, and she made a snap, but determined, decision to donate that same quilt, that had previously raised camp money, to our group to help raise our camp money. She said she felt that is a wonderful legacy for that quilt---to send kids to two or maybe even more church camps, and I would agree. (But I did tell her that she was tempting me --- I could easily live with that "pink rose" quilt and never tell anyone where it came from! *giggle*)
Anyway, I was sworn to secrecy about where the quilt came from, and it will be delivered to the powers that be for that auction next week! She wants no one, no, not one, to know who donated it. I asked her to write out her story to go with the quilt so that the auctioneer can relay the story also.
I really think the story will encourage bidders, but I think the quilt should do very well even if the story could not be told. At least she and I hope so! She wants it to send several kids to camp, and I think it will.
I think I'm hearing thunder! Guess I better get off this box! I think Monday will the the only day for the next seven days that no rain is expected. If I'm staying home because of the weather, maybe I can get back to work on my wildflower quilt. We'll see!
Hope everyone has a blessed Easter tomorrow. HE is risen!

Those are some very cool and lovely quilts for the auction! I hope they raise a lot of $$ for kids to go camping! The large one is very pretty and hopefully there will be a bidding war over it. Hee Hee!
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy! I'm sure there will be some grateful kids this summer.
ReplyDeleteAll three of your quilts are wonderful! I especially like the red, white and blue ones. These will definitely raise some money for the kids to go camping. It is always fun to sew for a good cause. The donated quilt is beautiful and I love the story behind it. What a wonderful gesture.
