I used a low loft batting that was actually leftover strips stitched together, and the white backing and sashings were a soft slick cotton fabric, probably meant more for a table cloth rather that a quilt backing. I don't know when or why I ever bought it! Consequently the little topper is rather flimsy, but it will be okay for my den coffee table.
I can't explain why I just cannot make myself try the pretty curvy free motion quilting that so many of you do, but I did finally drop the feed dogs and decided to"try" to stitch around the navy portions of the flags, and some of the red/white stripes. There's not enough quilting for sure, but anyway, I'm calling this one done!
Again, I used one of the fancy stitches on my machine for the sashings and border, and while not perfect either, it will be okay for me.
Here it is, ready for July 4th!
You would know that, of course I had to get a little fabric too --- only two pieces, and they will go perfectly with some I already had. Unfortunately there's a few projects ahead of them!
Maybe I'll go figure on one tonight!

Very prettty Love! I never thought of a 4-patch stack and whack, but this worked out very well.
ReplyDeleteI love how your patriotic stack'n'whack blocks look. The Stars and Stripes are such a terrific choice.
ReplyDeleteThe fancy stitching in the border really "sets off" the table runner. Another lovely patriotic quilt - your specialty! I really should make a couple patriotic table toppers - I just realized I don't have any. For shame on me. I doubt I will be able to get any don't before July 4th though. I have some projects going on and will need to do them,
ReplyDeleteYour little table topper is gorgeous! It is perfect for July 4th decorating. You did a very nice job with the quilting, I always hesitate to do anything but straight quilting, too. I need to practice and build confidence. But first, I have projects to get done for family.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And I think the quilting is great. Do what you like and don't worry about what the rest of us are doing. I'm a little jealous my sewing machine doesn't have ANY of the fancy stitches, so there you go. I hope we get to see the Christmas quilt you bought fabrics for!
