Getting a Jump on Christmas Already --- Really?

Can you believe it's only about six months until Christmas?  I don't know what made me think of that last week, but I did.  After working on the Spring Texas wildflowers, and then a little patriotic flag quilt for July 4, and a mice picnic at the lake, I guess I just got to thinking ahead all the way to Christmas.

I've been meaning to make some kind of little quilt for cousins and friends, and since I already have lots of Christmas fabrics, I decided now would be a good time to get started.  They will all be quick and easy, and my plan is to get several tops together and do the quilting later.  I'm not sure how far I'll get with my plan, but I've got two little table toppers together.

The first is another four-patch stack and whack, made from some fabric I bought several weeks ago.  I didn't really like it, but thought maybe it would work for that pattern.  It's said that weird fabrics usually do well in stack and whacks.    The first picture shows the fabric left, and a glimpse of the resulting topper.   I have no idea how that "face/sun" happened to be included in the design; I'm glad I didn't get it in the topper.   I think I'll use what fabric is left for the backing --- just to get rid of it!   I may bind it with the stripe at the left green sashing.

Then next you will see the full top; I think it turned out okay.  It's about 24" square.

Today I finished this next little Disappearing Four Patch; I may make another one with a different setting.  I may put a narrow green border around this one; maybe not.  I want to keep them all really quick and easy.  This one is about 28" square now.
Not sure what will be next.  I do have several fabrics matched up.  I'm having fun trying out some different things.

I need to be cleaning house and flower beds!  But that's not really as much fun.  I'm using my vertigo as a real excuse for staying in the house! *giggle*  (BTW, that is better, but still has me hanging on to things occasionally.)

  1. Getting out in the heat can give anyone vertigo. So I do recommend that you stay inside! That first fabric is rather weird, but the stack and wack method does work well with it! The disappearing 9-patch looks great!

  2. Did you see that Australian golfer who fainted from vertigo? Jason Day is his name. Don't mention Christmas yet! That stack and whack looks amazing and I like your disappearing nine patch. Nice work as always Love.

  3. That's a lovely use of your fabric. It always surprises me to see stack and whacks. Once you've cut the fabric apart and put t back together, it looks like you had so many more fabrics to start! Your disappearing 4-patch is pretty. Take care of yourself, and by all means stay in and sew if that's what it takes to recover properly :)

  4. The stack and whack projects are great! It can turn the fabric into wonderful designs in the blocks. You are so good working ahead of the holiday rush. I can't believe June is almost over, where does the time go? The disappearing nine patch is very pretty, I will have to try that out someday. Be careful working in the heat, it doesn't take long outside in the heat before I am just exhausted and thirsty. Leave the outside work for early morning and evening when the sun is just ready to set. You can play with fabric inside during the heat of the day!
