Happy Birthday, America!

Everyone knows that I love red, white, and blue quilts, and even more so, my homeland, America.  I've been thinking about how blessed I've been to be a proud American (and Texan)!  Yet, as I write this tonight, July 3, I must admit I've been deeply concerned about how our America is changing, and not always for the better.  If you've been reading my blog many years, you are aware that sometimes I go out on a limb on the subject, and I'm really going to try not to do that tonight.

For several years now, I've made at least one patriotic project for July 4, and this year I've made a couple recently.  One I donated to our church youth auction, and then bought it back, so that's it for 2015.  You can read about it here .      I named it "Why Do We Whack Up Our Pledge?"

Then I got to thinking about some of my patriotic projects from years gone by.   There's the two big quilts with handwritten quotations of our Founding Fathers.   Read about them here:  "America - Founded As A Christian Nation", and "Wise Words of Our Founding Fathers," both completed in July, 2010.   That post is really long, but what it says is still just as important, to me anyway.   I think if we today would follow the advice in those quotations, our nation would be in much better shape.

As I thought more about our nation's condition today, I realized there truly is a solution to our problems.  The solution can be found here, in the "Big If".  This is one wall hanging I wish I had kept rather than donating it to the church youth auction!

All of these projects, and the several more patriotic quilts I've made are truly summed up in the little quotation wall hanging I made in July 2014.   In spite of all our many differences, it is true:  "America Is Like A Quilt".   This little piece says it all, and is perhaps my favorite of those I still own.

Yes, I can say in spite of all our problems, I'm proud to be an American!  I pray we will seek the solution to all our problems so that God will continue to bless the United States of America.

Now --- I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe July 4, 2015, holiday celebration.  Be grateful for all those who have gone before us to secure our liberties and to defend our freedoms!

---"Love"

  1. Happy 4th July, Love! I think if you could travel back in time your sentiments would be found in every generation. Each one had its own trials and tribulations to face. I'm sure that when the newcomers arrived, the Native Americans longed for the *good old days* too.

It was your country's independence that gave rise to the establishment of the Australian colony and there has been a lot of interaction between us ever since.

I'm sure there is a lot more good - and good people - than there is bad. Newspapers and tv prefer to focus and sensationalise the worst in society but we know that there are plenty of decent folk getting on with their lives and doing what they can for others when they can. Like you.

  2. Ann is so right! Most people are too busy working and taking care of their families to go out and show how thankful and proud we are to be Americans. The problem is that some of the leaders and judges are not following the laws and our constitution. So, I will leave it at that. Thanks for your words of hope!
