A Little Glimpse at My Second Work In Process

As mentioned last week, I did temporarily leave my large project hanging on the design wall, and I've dedicated a little more time to the little quilt for my BFF's May birthday.  I finished the embroidered section, but haven't trimmed it yet.  I decided to wait until I get some of the pieced  blocks finished that will be surrounding it.   I'll still wait to show the embroidery, but I have made 22 of these little 5" log cabin blocks.  They will not be in this arrangement; I just lined them up this way for this picture.  The 2" center dotted blocks are what's left from the little Best Friends quilt I gave her a couple of years back, and the 1/2" logs are from my stash.   See it here .  When I finish the project, you will understand better why I wanted to use what little of the dots I have left in order to tie the quilt back to the first one.  (Again, I'm flying by the seat of my pants!  So...what's new, right?)

Even though I haven't been able to work in my rose garden this year, here's a look at what I see from my sunroom windows where I sew.  Not as pretty as previous years, but my roses bring me much joy. (Sorry, I took the pictures from inside, and the window screen played tricks with the photos.)  The little firefighter pieces in the window are from my days working with those great guys!  Just can't forget them!

Next is a picture of some antique gladiolas that come up every year like daffodils do.  A friend gave the bulbs to me several years ago from her mother's yard.  The blooms are much smaller than regular glads, but they have never failed to bloom for me.

I'm hoping to make good progress soon on my BFF quilt.  I'm still giggling every time I work on it.

Hope all of you have a great week-end.  Rain is predicted for our area every day through next Wednesday.  I'm praying we don't have storm damage like some nearby areas had last week!

  1. I can hardly wait to see your project finished. The fabrics are pretty and the colors so soft. I'm really curious to see the embroidery you did for it. Your flowers are lovely, enjoy them!

  4. Your roses and gladdies (we tend to call them that across the pond) are beautiful and must bring a smile to your face when you see them. The colour of the gladdies is fabulous - I've never seen them that colour before. The log cabin blocks are lovely - pretty and subtle.
