Both of us have experienced more health problems in the last year than ever before, and both of us seem to be more forgetful than we like. She often jokes and says the day may come when she will not even remember my name, and I always say she better not forget my name or I'll forget hers!
Anyway, the day after her recent call, I received a catalog from Nancy's Notions, and in it, I came across a "Friends Forever" quilt pattern by Cranberry Pie Designs. I knew immediately I had to have that pattern, so I ordered it. It would be the perfect companion quilt to the other "Best Friends" quilt with little girls doing the same things we did as little girls, especially jumping on the bed. Then I checked to see what fabrics I had left from the first quilt, and all I could find was a small piece of the tan fabric with green and brown dots; maybe I could make that work somehow with more fabrics in similar colors.
Enough now of how the second quilt came to be! Get ready to giggle! It's so ugly; it's really cute! Double-click to read it and see the quilting better.

I prefer log cabin blocks more than the wonky blocks in the pattern, so I made that change. I also wanted the embroidered piece centered so it could perhaps be used with a wheelchair. I'm going to suggest she may want to save it to use with her wheelchair when that time comes someday, because I'll be too old to make one for her then. (I think we both are about there now.)
I've giggled with almost every stitch on this little quilt, 43" x 39". I can hardly wait until May 12 to give it to her. (I hope she doesn't throw it at me!)
In my gifting letter I'll tell her we can look forward to being Best Forever "New" Friends, just like we've been Best Forever "Old" Friends, for all our lives. Our friendship truly is very special, and the older I get, and the more I talk with other people, the more I realize that a friendship such as ours is very rare indeed. I am truly blessed!
Now it's time to get back to my larger project again.
We've had the second week in a row with rain and storms at least 2-3 times each week, but so far, I've escaped any damage. In the past two weeks, my back yard has received 9.5" of rain. I'm glad my place slopes to the back! We're being told we'll have sunshine next week. I certainly hope so!

Love, it is adorable! I know she will love it, you made it especially for her.
ReplyDeleteThat is SOOOOO cute! Truly a treasure for your best friend! I wish I had a long time friend like that, but either they moved away, or I did. I moved away after we got married and we've moved a lot since then. I can't wait to read what her reaction is!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, how adorable! I feel like I know the both of you just looking at it. She'll love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvellous post about you and your BFF! Fancy finding a stitchery/quilt pattern that celebrates you both so well. My BFF and I have decided to get rooms next to each other at the old folks home. Even if we get dementia, we'll just meet for the first time every day and hit it off. *chuckle*
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful quilt for a wonderful friend. From what you have shared about her, I can guess that she will love this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect embroidery pattern and I love the borders you chose (sometimes we have to "fix" what the designer suggests to make things fit for our own plans) and what a wonderful gift for your friend. But I'm saddened to hear you feel you'll be in a wheelchair soon. I hope you're exaggerating! We all get old and slower, but I hope you have many more years on your feet!
