Finally, My Block Heads Block for Week 6

I finally got the applique done on my Block Heads Week 6 block; I had finished the piecing during that week, but kept dreading the applique. Actually it wasn't as difficult as I had imagined it would be.  And yes, I did cut the circle and did the needleturn method.  I'm using all patriotic scraps for my blocks, and for this one, the little heart in the center of the "sunflower" was printed on the fabric; I definitely did not applique that!

This morning while taking this picture, I looked out at the bird feeder and saw another pretty little bird.  I first thought I'd never seen a Painted Bunting in my yard before, but when I went to type in the label, it was already there.  You can see the first one here.  (I'm amazed that it was six years and ONE DAY ago that I posted pictures of the first one!  Do birds keep a calendar and a travel log?)  I giggled when I thought to myself that maybe the little blue parakeet-looking bird that had been here a few weeks back had gotten a fancy dye job!  This one stayed long enough for me to get several pictures through the window.  It looks just like the one from 2011!

I had to crop these pictures, and in so doing, lost the camera's date.

The past 2-3 weeks have been really busy for me, almost every day having to go somewhere.  Seems like every post I mention a funeral dinner I've had to help with, and indeed there was another one yesterday!  Then today I had a dental appointment, and also a doctor's appointment; both were just check-ups, and all was fine for now anyway.  I hope the next ten days will allow me to stay at home! I'm tired!

I was awakened this morning about 5:30 by wind, rain, and a little hail.  I don't think I had any damage, but in about 15 minutes, I got one inch of water in my rain gauge, which was needed!   Several days ago, we hit 90 degrees, and now here it is April 26, and it will be back down in the lower 40's tonight!  That's Texas for you!

Again, I say I hope to get to more serious quilting before long.   I don't know how many of you get so much done each week!

  1. That sweet little heart was a bonus in your block. Our rosellas have bright colours like that. Sounds like you need some down time Love for stitchin'.

  2. The bird pictures are beautiful. Nothing like that around here! I cheated with block six. I made a snowball block for the centre. For block seven (more appliqué) I made a very simple basket block instead. Now block eight is a more complicated, but very doable for me, basket block. I am going to do my quilt my way. I love your block with the little heart. So you!

  3. Your block is lovely, as always. Thats'a beautiful bird. We have a variety of bird feeders in the yard so we get a good number of birds, but nothing quite so colorful. We get color, but usually just one bright one per bird! (cardinal, blue jay, goldfinch...)

  4. Very nice! I haven't done this one or the new one because I'm waiting for the background fabric that I ordered to come in. I ordered the light fabric from Betsy's Rachel Remembered fabric line. It might be this week and then I can get back on track. I need to get my hummingbird feeder put out because there's a hummingbird checking out my flowers, but I don't have very many blooming yet.
