Back To A Semi-Distant Project

I think it was last July when I last posted about this project.  After that post, I added more blocks and now it measures  76" square.  I had it all pinned ready for quilting, and indeed I began quilting a feather pattern in the black areas.  The thread kept breaking, and I was having lots of trouble staying with the pattern.  I wasn't happy with the results, so I folded it up, pins and all, and stuffed it in a plastic tub and tried to forget about it.  Did a pretty good job of the forgetting!

I've noticed, while reading lots of blogs, that everyone seems to be pulling out old projects and getting them finished.  I thought about this one and decided it was time for me to drag it out and get it finished.  The first thing I did was rip out all I had quilted; just couldn't be happy with it.  That took a while, but I made it a practice to rip every time I was on the phone; made it go easier for me!

Earlier this year I had ordered Leah Day's book "Explore Walking Foot Quilting", one for my DIL, and also one copy for me.  After studying that, I decided to give up on the idea of feathers, and go with straight line quilting, using my walking foot.  Believe me, it went much faster!  Perhaps I should have not used black thread, but it does show up better than the picture portrays.

I'm almost positive I prepared the black binding, but haven't been able to find it yet today.  I'll have to dig a little deeper, or go to the store again.  I will finally get this thing finished someday.

I've been busy with lots of things lately, and it seems every week gets loaded with places to be for various reasons, and there's always weeds to pull in the yard.  Physical therapy will continue three more weeks; I really can't see much improvement in my legs and the way I walk, but the therapist thinks I'm walking a bit better.  I still try to do more than I should probably, but I'm just not going to sit down all the time and rot!   It just takes me three times as long to do things as it should.

Looks like rain is heading this way, and we surely need it!  Guess I'll go feed the big white winged dove in the back yard, and then look for that black binding!

  1. I remember that quilt! It's not nearly as old as some hiding in my closet, but good for you getting it back out and conquering it! I love the simplicity of the black and white and the simple quilting complements it nicely. Wouldn't it be nice if we could pull weeds once and that area stays tidy all summer? It sure would make weeding take less time in the long run!

  5. I just love black and white quilts! The quilting is lovely. I haven't seen that book, but there is another one named "Walk" (I think) that looked interesting. Straight line quilting is great!
