Same old story --- another busy week, with physical therapy on Monday and Wednesday mornings. My therapist really worked me hard on Monday, and I didn't do much the rest of the day.
The weatherman was saying it would be raining again on Wednesday, and all the weeds in my rose garden were really aggravating me, so Tuesday morning, even though I was sore, I decided to get rid of them! Out I went at 11 AM. I first thought I would hoe them up, but I'd have to rake the mulch out of the way and then rake it back. I pulled up a few weeds by hand, and the soil was just damp enough that they came up easily, roots and all. That settled it; I'd just pull them all by hand, and of course, that meant bending way over, or squatting down, and then dragging myself back up with my cane. I determined not to quit until I finished the rose garden, and finally at 1:30 PM, I had all the weeds and grass out, bagged, and in the trash can. I was really tired and the muscles in my legs were really hurting. I ate a corny dog out on the patio and rested a few minutes, then decided to clean out under the climbing rose while I was dirty. I should have known better! That really didn't take long, but I kept seeing more and more dead vines on the trellis. I had not pruned the climber when I pruned the rose garden! So----tired as I was, I got my bucket and hand pruners, and started in! I did a lot of hanging onto the trellis, but by golly, I stayed with it until it was done, and all was bagged and in the trash can for the trash pickup Wednesday morning. I came in the house at 6:30 PM, almost too tired to even move. I rested a few minutes, took a shower, put my pj's on, and sat down. Took my BP and it was 90/41! No wonder I could hardly move. I was almost afraid to go to bed, but decided to tell the Lord He was in control, and I went to bed!
The alarm woke me Wednesday in time for therapy, but I was so sore I could hardly move! Therapist wasn't very happy with me, but she agreed to go easy on me, thank goodness.
I really don't know how I got it done, but after lunch I decided I could get the borders on My Blue Stars, and I did with very little trouble really, but I took it slow and easy. Hung the thing up Thursday morning for a picture before I went to church quilting. I'm pleased with how the flimsy turned out. It now is 96" x 84". Not sure when I'll get started quilting it, but hopefully before too long.
Again, here's a closeup showing the background for the blue stars, and between the red sashing. I love that fabric!
I ordered my 104" backing from Connecting Threads while on sale, and it came Thursday. It is their "Trail of Stars"; forgot to take picture; you can see it on their website. I got it washed Thursday night, but haven't had the time or strength yet to iron that 3 yard monster! Maybe Sunday afternoon; maybe not!
Friday I went to a few yard sales, looking for more vintage linens, but not much success. Didn't take pictures; it's now soaking in Oxiclean in the bathtub overnight. Today I had to help with another funeral dinner, after cleaning house a bit this morning.
To be honest, I'm about worn to a frazzle after this week, but I don't give up easily! It all starts again Monday! After reading all this, I'm guessing you are probably as tired as I am! I'm going to bed now! How 'bout you?
Hope we all can rest Sunday ---AFTER going to church, right?

ReplyDeleteSo very patriotic in style. Well done.
ReplyDeleteGood for you doing the yard work! And what does your therapist think you do between appointments? Just because you're older than her (him?) doesn't mean you sit around all day waiting for death! Getting out there was GOOD for you - not only were you moving, you were doing something you enjoy...well, at least enjoy looking at when it's tidy! Maybe they need to figure out how yardwork can be PART of physical therapy, not a punnishible offense! The quilt, as usual, is stunning. It seems like it came together fast, but sometimes quilts do that. I look forward to seeing how you quilt it.
ReplyDeletei certainly agree with Katie, don't sit around.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same in the garden, start one thing and then 6 hours later I drag myself in, dirty and sore! The quilt looks great. Sunday is supposed to be a quiet day here but it never is, I hope you get your restful afternoon.
You are such an inspiration to me. Wish I had more of your get-up-and-go!!
ReplyDeleteSo loving the results on this quilt. It is very striking.
I need to head to physical therapy now. :)
I can't believe you posted this Saturday and I am just now reading it on Tuesday! I guess I haven't been checking out many blogs since I came home. I love the star quilt! It is gorgeous! I've been pulling weeds too but I must be weaker than you because I can't do it all day!! An hour at a time maybe twice a day is all I can handle.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so striking. It's a beautiful pattern and of course R,W, and B is the perfect combo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt, perfect for the summer! Love the RW&B, the music fabric is so pretty!
