What's Done is Done, and It Is What It Is ---- Maybe!

I couldn't stand looking at my Moda Block Heads every time I came into the sunroom!  It just looked so busy, and yet unfinished.  So I decided to add borders yesterday, and finished the last two mitered corners this morning.  The white border is 1", and the red will finish at 2".  I think it looks better already, even though again I didn't get it hung straight.  It is now 54" x 69", and is too wide for my design wall, so the red border doesn't look anywhere straight even though it really is.  I'm going to let it hang a few days until I decide whether to stop it there and bind it with navy, or put some patriotic fabric around it for another wider border.  Here's one more look with the borders.

So much for that quilt for a while!  It is what it is --- maybe!

Someone had requested to see the items I got at the Estate Sale besides (dirty) vintage linens, so here's a peek.  I had a purple iris in the vase earlier, but it has gone away, and I have no more blooming now.   Double click on the following pictures for a better look.

You are looking at $6.50 here.
The iris vase appears to be leaning, but it is not.  It is curved on the side next to the cross-stitched poem; each cost me $1 each.  The "scrolled" dish with the roses is beautiful, and the only name is "d'art" under the roses and No. 6945 and crossed arrows on the back; I've looked online but can't find a match for it.  It cost me $3.  The robin is fine quality, no name or mark, no chips, and cost me $1.  The crystal dish with the embossed frosted roses on the underside cost me $0.50.  I decided to take the picture on my gray cutting board so the roses would show up better.

Here's a closeup of the poem that I'll be giving to my BFF for her birthday next month.  I think you can read it better here.

Beautiful handwork and framed, for $1.

Next is what they called a towel rack, and it probably is, because it is only 34"H x 27"W, but for only $3, I thought it was just too cute to pass.  It is a little fragile, but I think some wood glue will take care of that.  I cleaned it this morning with Liquid Gold polish and now I just have to find a space for it.  I think I've told you I'm out of wall space for "stuff" in my house!
Cost me $3.
The rest of the $17 I spent that day was for the vintage linens that I need to get busy cleaning!

Now I think I'll go cut some blue and white stars while the sun is shining beautifully here today!

Hope you are having fun today too!

  1. The borders on the blockheads quilt definitely calm it down! If it were mine, I'd stop there, but it's your quilt and living in your house, so you're the one who has to listen to it (and maybe hear it complain if you do the wrong thing!). The estate sale finds are beautiful!

  2. I think you’ve got it. The two borders look terrific. You really need to find a better name for this new patriotic quilt. I love your Saturday morning purchases. Your best friend is sure to love the poem, too.

  5. I have a collection of vintage linens too! One of the items that I am drawn to at estate sales. I once made a table runner out of some of them and had it for sale for a couple years until finally a lady spotted it and grabbed it up saying it was just perfect! I have enough to make more table runners or a large quilt. I had never seen a crocheted fan like the one you got. Very unique!
