Actually Some More Blocks!

It's been a relatively slow few days since my last post.  More rain scattered about, of course, but not as much company, although my friend I'm helping with her quilt came today, and brought lunch and her son with her.  We had a good time, and got her 36 log cabin blocks arranged and the rows and blocks numbered so she can sew them together next week.  It is going to be beautiful!  She is thrilled and also surprised that she has done so well.

I still have not heard any more from my Mississippi classmate, but it's been raining from there to here most of the time still, and will again this week-end!  He may not get here until June!  We are all just about ready to give up on seeing him this year!

Meantime, life goes on here in my home!  I've cleaned house, then messed it up, and cleaned it again, and again, and yet again.  I decided last week to get on with my sewing.   I haven't gotten as much done as I wish, but I have made progress.  Here's proof:

Block 27

Block 28 - I just could not cut this into little pieces,
and I also wanted to save that beautiful crochet!  So I just added the
bottom piece of white and cut it all the same size as the other blocks.

Bock 29

Block 30

Block 31

Block 3 2- I've decided I just as well add a little red along the way.

Block 33 - I stitched the lace on the pink section out close to the edge,
as I've done on other laces also.
Also I've overlaid some of the thinner backgrounds over heavier pastels which gives a slightly different effect which I like a lot.  I have several more pieces cut to put together, but will need to cut more of the longer triangle pieces which are hard to fit into lots of the embroidery pieces.  I just cut what I can work out of a piece and stack them up by section number so that I have a better choice of what sections will go together best.  It is a long, slow process, but I am enjoying it.

I need to do a trial run layout to see what its all looking like, and I may also have to get my estate sale friend to bring me some more embroidery pieces.  I don't think I have anywhere near enough blocks to do what I want to do, but I probably need to do some figuring too!  Just sewing them is more fun than doing the calculation!

If it keeps raining (like they say again!), maybe I'll get some more blocks made next week!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. I'm glad you finished cleaning enough to get some sewing time. Your blocks are all beautiful! Number 28 is perfect, glad you didn't want to cut it apart. She may be the center of attention with all the other blocks complimenting her! Looks like you are enjoying yourself. Hope you can show us your friends log cabin quilt when she gets further along, it sounds pretty, too. Hope your friend from Mississippi gets a break in the weather so he can make the trip soon.

  2. I'm glad to see that you didn't cut block 28, it's perfect as is. Perhaps with some sashing it could become the center of a medallion style quilt. Your quilt will be a fabulous encyclopedia of stitchery and crocheted edgings.

  3. These blocks are so soft and pretty. I am impressed with the way you have overlaid to compensate for thin fabrics and save embroidered edges. This will be a fantastic quilt.

  4. Those blocks are so beautiful and I still marvel at what a clever idea it is. I fully understand why you didn't want to cut up that delightful belle.

  5. I'm glad to hear you've made time for quilting. With no definite plans from your classmate, it's best to just get on with life and worry about the details when he finally chooses a date to visit. The blocks look great and are coming along nicely. I agree that the lady with the parasol is perfect just the way she is. And who knows...maybe your estate sale friend will find you another so she has a friend to join her in her stroll through the flowers?!
