Memorial Day Weekend and Then July 4!

How can it be that this year is almost half over?  I guess I had not realized that until a friend told me about getting her house all decorated with red/white/blue things for Memorial Day this week-end.  Wow!  I had not even realized it, and that's unusual for me.  I usually have all my patriotic quilts out, and the little flags in the ivy pots on the front porch.  So......yesterday that's what I did!

Of course, I had to dig the patriotic quilts out from under all the Christmas quilts in the cedar chest!  That was no fun; neither was packing it all back up!  But r/w/b is now all over my house.  I just have to show you a few of them to get me in the mood.

I love the panels above, but this one I made several years ago is
my absolute favorite!  The border between the stripe and navy
has the Pledge of Allegiance words printed.

Little rack doesn't  fit in too well with other things on my piano,
but I wanted the little quilt there.  Those are half-inch blocks!
That's enough patriotic pictures for now.  I realize I missed one more I wanted to show, but I'll save that one for closer to July 4.  Of course, "My Blue Stars" from last year is on the guest bed

All this activity reminded me that I usually try to complete a new patriotic project before or at least on July 4.  Well, you well know what I've been working on this year; closets and my embroidery quilt!  No thought of a patriotic quilt at all this year!  However, hanging on the quilt rack in the sunroom is that crazy Moda Blockheads quilt top from last year, with all those little 6" blocks!  I just haven't been inspired to quilt it yet, but the thought came to me today that maybe if I laid the current project aside for a while, maybe I could get that r/w/b thing quilted by July 4 --- maybe!  I decided to put that thought out of my mind today; maybe tomorrow I'll reconsider.  It will be a pain to quilt, with every block different!

Earlier this week I finished a few more embroidery blocks, and I cut a lot more pieces today.  I may box them up until after the Moda Blockheads is quilted; maybe not.  Here's the finished blocks for this week.

Seems like I'm doing more overlays and adding more colors lately, but of course, I'll mix them up with the first several blocks when I wasn't doing that as much.   I really do want to get some of them up on the design wall soon just to see what it is going look like, but that probably won't happen this week-end.

Can you believe the only time I've left my house in nine days is to feed the birds and get the mail?

Guess I better hit the sack; it's been a long day.

  2. I can't believe Memorial weekend snuck up on you, knowing your love to decorate either for Christmas or anything patriotic! Is it possible to have both projects going at once? Perhaps reward yourself for quilting a set number of blockheads blocks with making an embroidery block or two? As for staying home, I envy you! I dont mind going out to do things, but when my hubby is off work, he seems to think we should go somewhere every day. Emphasis on WE! I love him and am happy to spend time with him that is not restricted by work schedules, but I've gotten used to being home most days, so I'm ready for him to go back to work, too! (One more week...hoping for no more rain because he'll usually go fishing alone if the weather holds!)

  3. I enjoyed seeing your R/W/B quilts. I need to follow your example and get mine out.
Like you, I usually make a new one each year, but nothing so far for me, either.
Sometimes you just need to quilt an "all over" design on a sampler, and not worry about matching the design to each block. While you are considering things, consider that. :)
Love those blocks from the vintage linens!

  4. Well, your patriotic quilts are so appropriate for the season. Having not much storage space in this little house I've not sewn quilts for all the seasons, though I suppose I could at least make a set of placemats to reflect the holidays we do celebrate. So nice to see your vintage blocks continue to add up. It will be fun to see them together on your design wall.

  5. I love seeing the RW&B quilts, I am partial to them, too. They are all fantastic! The new embroidery blocks are all beautiful, too. Can't wait to see the quilt take shape. Enjoy yourself!
