HAPPY BIRTHDAY! - (To Me, From Me!)

My birthday is really today, but I began my Birthday celebration early on Monday.  Hmmmmm----- I wonder --- should I ask you to guess how many birthdays this is for me? ----  There will be no prize for the correct guess, but I "might" admit to the correct one.  Don't worry --- if you want to guess, I won't be offended by a high guess!  You should know by now, I'm no spring chicken! *wink*

I had to go into the edge of the metroplex yesterday, and since I was more than half-way to JoAnn's Fabrics, I thought, why not call a quilting friend, and ask her to go with me.  Can you believe that on Sunday night I had checked JoAnn's website, something I rarely do, and I discovered they had a big President's Day sale on schedule this week.

My favorite rotary cutter with a squeeze handle had broken, and I really don't like the ones I have to remember to close the blade on.  I always forget!  Solution:  get a new rotary cutter!

My big cutting mat is old and beat up; it's the only big one I've ever owned, and remember, I began quilting in 1999!  Solution:  get a new cutting mat!  But the mat I really wanted most was a 12" rotating mat, and that's really all I needed to spend!

Can you believe JoAnn's ad showed all Olfa mats and cutters 40% off?  What a sale!

Remembering that Tuesday is my birthday, I decided it was time to treat myself!  So I picked up the 12" rotating mat and rotary cutter, and walked on over to the fabrics with my friend.  I didn't buy any fabric; I won't live long enough to cut up the fabric I have, much less quilt it!  But thread was on sale, so I picked up three spools, and walked back to the Olfa display.  That big mat looked so nice!    And 40% off of that high dollar price was just too enticing!  --- I picked up the 36 x 24 mat  too ---  "Happy Birthday, to me, from me," I said out loud!!  (My friend couldn't stand it; she bought all three too, plus her fabric, and then my birthday lunch!)

I can't believe it, but I got out of there with the big 36 x 24"  mat, the 12" rotating mat, and the 45mm rotary cutter, plus the thread, for a total of $61.20 --- all Olfa products!  I questioned the cashier, but she said the total was correct.  I like her new math!

And I'm going to love my new tools!

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

If I had to guess...hmmm...29? Tee hee hee! I could give a real guess, knowing how old your grandsons are, you're probably not much older than my mom (she had kids a little later in life than average for her generation and I have an 11-year-old niece), but we'll go with 29. You're only as old as you want to be!

Your gifts to yourself are fantastic. I just replaced my first cutting mat (given to me in 1997, but it was packed away for a few years while I lived at home after college while working and saving for a new car) at Christmas, so I know how beat up yours must have been! Good for you!

Enjoy your birthday. If I find some cake, I'll eat a piece for you too! :)

  3. Happy Birthday, Love!!! That is definitely the way to buy mats and rottary cutters! It's nice to have a big, new mat. And that rotating mat looks great! I might need to check it out sometime when I can get a good deal on one.

  4. Happy, happy, happy! Great minds think alike! My b'day is Thursday and yesterday I ordered two quilt books from Amazon (like I really need them). You picked up my favorite cutter and you are going to LOVE that rotating mat. Wonderful addition to your tools! Why not suggest your son pick up that piece of insulation and help you set up that design wall? Have an absolutely great day! Mary

  5. Happy Birthday! It doesn't matter how many this is, the higher the number, the better, when counting birthdays! ! ! I'm glad you got all of your goodies, too. I love when JoAnn's has a sale. I was there Friday and got 12 new pieces of fabric for about $27. I was thrilled. I watch the sales, stick their coupons on my fridge door and plan my spending so I can get the most for my money. It is especially good to buy Olfa tools when there is a sale. I have a couple of 50% off coupons waiting now.

I'm glad you had such a good time for your birthday and hope you have many, many more so you can get to all that fabric! ! !

  6. Happy Birthday Love! I'm guessing 29 and a few months :) You're only as old as you feel so that makes you pretty young. Enjoy your birthday goodies!

  7. A very 'Happy Birthday' to you, Love. I am thinking that you must have an enormous fabric stash! You seem so young.

I enjoyed your 'winter wonderland' pictures. Isn't Mother Nature amazing? We have lots of snow and beautiful frost covered trees that sparkle day and night. So magical...

I am looking forward to seeing more of your new kaleidoscope quilt.

    Enjoy your special day.

  8. Happy Birthday! Hey, age is a privilege. (Not everybody gets there, you know!) I think the trick is how to get there gracefully! I try to do something new and exciting every year for my birthday. A couple of years ago I paid to volunteer at the Dallas Zoo. (I spent the day cleaning up what comes out of the south end of an elephant!) Guess your splurge this year was a lot better than mine was! :) Theri

  10. Happy Birthday, dear friend! You may not be a spring chicken, but I would think there is still plenty of spring in your step!

What a wonderful treat! Nothing better than getting items at a great deal like that!
