Finally! A Finish! I Just Wish It Were Mine!

Tonight I finally finished the binding on the church quilters' quilt!  Since I had hand-quilted a very few inches (12 maybe *grin*), I thought it only fair that I do the binding.  Unlike some of you, I love doing the binding!  As I was finishing it, I kept thinking maybe I should be doing some applique, or maybe hand piecing.  You know, it doesn't really make any sense that I love and can do the handwork, even some embroidery, but when it comes to hand quilting, my hands just don't seem to work right!  Just another of life's mysteries, I guess.  Anyway, I hope the quilters will be pleased with the finish.

I wish I had a picture of the fabric before we cut it.  It is really wild, but I love how it turned out!  It's not perfect, but lovely anyway, and for a good cause!    It will be raffled in the fall for the youth ski trip during Christmas holidays.  Maybe it can be mine after all, if I buy enough tickets!  *giggle*  Here's a couple of up close and personal pictures of the blocks.

Now I'm back to "what next?' I need to finish that Christmas mat that I abandoned when I began the APQ wall hanging --- which I need to quilt! Maybe the quilt for the sick friend......but what I want to do is start a string quilt! Oh yeah, I still need to quilt MY Stack and Whack on which I did that nice basting job with the boards, and I need to get the pink/blue Kaleidoscope to a quilter somewhere! Both are folded and hanging on the quilt rack in my bedroom to keep me reminded.  Quilt shows are starting up in this area in the next month or two, so all the quilters will be booked up solid!

Decisions, decisions! Maybe I should write them down and draw a slip of paper from a bowl??? Actually, what I need to do most probably is clean my quilting closet! I've been piling in that for months; what a mess!

Keep showing your pretty quilts, even in progress. I love seeing them!

  4. What a lovely quilt! I hope it raises a lot of $$ for the ski trip. What to do next? That is always a challenge. My problem is that I jump into something new even though I have lots of other projects to finish. So much to do!

  5. It may not be perfect (your words, not mine!), but it's beautiful! A little wild, but I'm sure there is someone out there who will treasure it. As for what to do next...don't you know the best solution to this dilemma is to start another project? String quilt it is! :)

  6. That quilt is wonderful. My BFF is doing to same kinds of quilts. She calls them mosaic, although she is into purples and reds. I like yours alot and I can see why you would like to keep it. Good luck with whatever you end up working on next. Connie204

  7. I have wanted to make a Stack and Whack quilt ever since I watched your blocks take shape last year. (I even bought a book!) All I need is some interesting fabric.

This quilt is so vibrant -- I hope it will raise lots of money. I also hope that you soon find inspiration for your next project.

  8. Hi "Love" -- There is a wonderful website:
    www.maryquilts.com/
with lots of information (and inspiration) about string quilts. She has a lot of free downloadable patterns, as well. Just a thought.

  9. What a vibrant quilt! It will be hard to let it go, I'm sure. Choosing a project out of a hat sounds like as good a way as any to move forward when the UFO list starts getting too long. I look forward to seeing pictures of whichever one gets picked!

  11. The quilt is beautiful. I like doing bindings too. I do all of one of my friend's bindings, she hates doing them.
A string quilt sounds like a great project (guess we all got tempted with that one LOL).
Happy stitching whatever you work on next.

  12. What a lovely quilt! Your church certainly has some talented quilters, including yourself.

As for what to do next, I know how difficult it can be to make those decisions so I'm no help at all I'm sorry! :)

  13. Just so all of you know, that website that Sandy mentioned several comments above is one of the best I've ever seen on string quilts! I spent wa-a-a-a-y too long there this afternoon! What's more, I'm going back right now! *grin* ---"Love"
