Two and a half weeks since I posted? I can't believe it!
I really have been doing a little bit of quilting, really I have, but nothing I can show yet. My APQ quilt top, with its pieced border, is finished, but not yet sandwiched. I'm trying to decide (again!) how to quilt it.
I got sidetracked from it last week when the church quilters finished that wild Stack and Whack quilt. Since I hadn't quilted very much on it, I agreed to do the binding. I have about 75% of it whipped down, and should complete it in a day or two, maybe tomorrow if all stays quiet on the home front.
Ruth has inspired me to at least begin a string quilt soon. I've thought about one for years, but I'm such a procrastinator. Her beautiful quilt gave me the nudge I needed. At least I'm beginning to plan a little. (Hmmm---does one 'plan' a string quilt from scraps?)
I found out tonight I have another friend with cancer, and my heart is saying I need to make a little quilt for her maybe. I just don't know what to do about that one. Need to decide soon I guess.
Someone mentioned Christmas today! I'm so far behind on that plan I had at the beginning of the year! Oh dear! I'm still trying to figure out what I've been doing with my time lately!
A few days ago I went outside and almost stepped on a lizard that has raised a family here for several years. He was as stunned as I was, and just froze long enough for me to come back in the house and grab my camera. Believe me, there is no end to the menagerie around here! A day or two later I saw two baby lizards about 2 inches long. The one in the picture is about 8-9" long. I do see the larger ones often, but this is the first picture I've been able to get. I have talked to them around here for years, and they sometimes twist their little heads as if trying to understand what I'm saying to them. I love to watch them!
Then a few days later I looked out the sunroom windows, and there lay a neighbor's cat under the birdbath in the rose garden. He stalks the dove in my yard almost everyday. Now I do love cats, but don't have one because of the birds that I love more. This cat is definitely a pet that lives nearby; he wants me to pet him everytime I go outside to run him off! He doesn't run! But he has killed some of my dove; I found the remains as evidence! He needs to stay at his own home! (Those roses look a little sick, don't they? They are finally forming more buds now.)
Okay, I promise --- no more blog posts until I can include a quilt picture! Have a great quilting week!

What kind of cancer? I have that pink and white one if it's that kind.
ReplyDeleteI can understand about the cat. But, what do you do??
Yeah, that string quilt put a dent in the head here too;)
Enjoy the lizard...they really are interesting;)
Happy Quilting!!
So sorry to hear about your friend, I'm sure she'd really love a little quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of string quilts, such a great way to use up scraps. :)
Bonnie Hunter has some string quilt instructions at www.quiltville.com. I think I got the idea of using paper backing, which I tore off after sewing the strips on and then squaring it up. I used pages from an old phone book. I love to watch little animals too. We don't have lizards that big here though.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about you... Glad to hear you're keeping busy, even if it's not so much with quilting. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend - I know you'll make the right decision about a quilt, though. The lizard is a little creepy to me, but that kitty is sure a pretty one! I don't like that my barn kitties take out the occasional barn swallow, but as Disney taught us in the Lion King, that's the circle of life. (And cats that catch birds also probably catch other critters you wouldn't want to find in your home!)
ReplyDeleteHow about a string quilt for your friend?

Glad to hear from you. You have been busy with lots of things. Love the pictures of the critters. They are lots of fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI know that your friend would love a quilt. I also just found out that one of my neighbors has throat cancer. He and his wife are the nicest couple. He's a retired teacher and does alot of wonderful wood work. I was thinking of a lap quilt for him. Maybe a scrappy one.
ReplyDeleteI think your lizard is kinda cute. Connie204
I love the photo of the lizard, and the fact that he has chosen to raise his family near you. A little quilt for your friend is a lovely idea. I can imagine the good feelings, for her and for you, as well.

Please do keep posting, even without quilt pictures.
Sorry to hear about your friend. A quilt sounds like a good idea. So many projects and so little time...
ReplyDeleteIf you wonder where the time went, you could check back at your blog entries, I think you have been very busy all year!
I can't believe that lizard stood still for the photo shoot. We always had little ones around when we lived in Hawaii, but none as bit as yours.
Keep stitching.
Get yourself a good squirt gun! That will scare the kitty off!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your friend. I'm sure a quilt will mean a lot. I can't wait to see your string quilt take shape :)
I like your menagerie :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will produce just the right quilt for your friend.
All my plants have been low on flowers recently, and now that I'm finally seeing buds again those pretty but nasty Japanese beetles are back chewing up anything and everything. I hope they haven't found your corner of the world yet so you can actually enjoy the blooms!

My nephew would love to visit your lizards Love - he's a big fan and would be jumping out of his skin to watch them all day. Shame about the cat. My Christmas plans have also been derailed. Sigh. Ann :-)
