From two blocks, to sixteen!
I figure I need to make fourteen more, and I have the white and pink strips already on the foundation muslin.
I've already moved the blocks around four or five ways; reminds me of arranging a log cabin quilt.
Remember some of you told me to keep it random? Well, I can't get much more "random" than this mess! Strips from 1", 1.25", 1.5",1.75", even 2" ---which in my opinion is too wide for this quilt, in all colors! I just grab! Well, most of the time! Next string quilt, I'm going to get more organized! This is still bothering me a bit. I'm still not wild about how it looks, (except the pink and white centers (sashings), but I am trying to bring in more fabrics, in yellow and green, and some small florals. I'm going to have to move it to the floor or the back bedroom bed; it's getting too big for the sunroom table. So far, it's been fun and easy.
If you enlarge this picture, pleeeeze --- do not look at those dying iris and tall grass! It's too darn hot to get out there! Of course, the grass has been growing a while I guess! *wink*
Happy quilting! And try to stay cool! ---"Love"
I really like this layout Love and the pink/white strips. It's such a terrific effect but then you need to please yourself not me. Ann :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I so love the way it is coming together. The middle strips give it just enough structure to satisfy the "symmetrical" eye and really set off the centers. Great work, Love.

I think your quilt is coming along great! Do you plan to write anything in the white centers of the blocks? (Seems like you...)
ReplyDeleteNo judging at your yard...mine looks equally bad because it's too hot for the hubby to mow and for me to pull weeds! I can't imagine how much hotter it is so far south of us. No, I can, I don't want to!
I think your string quilt is going to be terrific. I have to give you a big pat on the back for even trying it. I think it would drive me crazy. I haven't stepped out of the house in two days. It's like walking out into a sauna here. Connie204
ReplyDeleteI think the string quilt looks just like it should...wonderful;) And, I think you have it right when you said the more fabrics the better. Patterns like this tend to like mayhem;)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the garden...I can't say anything because I won't even go check the mail on hot days;)
Happy Quilting!!
Those blocks have really multiplied! I like the green and yellow accents, and the way you take an idea and make it your own.

I think your quilt is really looking great. I love the colors you are using and adding more will just make it better. I will have to try a string quilt when I get all my other projects finished. Don't worry about the yard, it will still be there when it cools down a bit. It's better for you to work outside when it is cooler. Keep enjoying the quilting.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! I have a laundry rack that is handy to hang all those strips on- I usually sort them my width on the different rows. (But I usually still have a pile like yours, too!) :) Theri
ReplyDeleteOh I love it!! Way to keep it random (I have to trick myself by doing things like that too!) I can't wait to see the finished product :)
ReplyDeleteGood job your quilt is looking great and I didn't look out your window to see the dying Iris!!! How nice you have such a pretty view to look at when you are sewing! I have plants in this condition also--- but they will be perky next year and in all there glory! They are plants that bounce every back! I will visit you again soon, Carolyn
ReplyDeleteLooking great Love! You have the perfect spot for sewing, all that natural light as well. My sewing room window looks out onto a busy street, but at least I'm thankful that I still have a sewing room!
ReplyDeleteIt's coming along beautifully. Keep at it! -Joanne
ReplyDeleteLOve, if the randomness of the string quilt is still bothering you, I will give it a home (LOL). I think it looks beautiful!!!! I love the white and pink in every block. Excellent work, as usual.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love it. It is coming together wonderfully.
