Six Days of Packing Christmas 2012 Away!

If anyone were to enter my home tonight, they would wonder if I had celebrated Christmas at all last month!  But I did!  I'm feeling it tonight too!  My hands may never be the same!

After six hard days of packing, three of them with my grandson's help, there is hardly any clue left in my house!  A few pieces of candy in a couple of small candy cans, maybe a dozen cookies, two live poinsettias, one metallic poinsettia arrangement, one pot of holly, and the two red bird/poinsettia quilts are literally all in sight!  The closets are full of Santas and snowmen, etc. in their original boxes, and all the other decorations are stacked to the ceiling in the garage, thanks to my son!  I'm so glad that job is finally finished, but my place surely looks drab without all the glitz and glitter!  Even the sunroom looked dreary on this partly cloudy day, and tomorrow will probably be worse!  I still haven't found some of my regular stuff I hid away so I'd have room for Christmas stuff, but I guess I'll find it all someday!

I may just sit and rock in the sunroom tomorrow!

Another classmate will be buried Saturday.  He had a heart attack Christmas morning, and after 3-bypasses surgery last Friday, he never responded again and passed away Wednesday after being taken off life support.  As if that were not enough, his wife had visited him the night before his surgery, and after leaving, fell on a parking lot and broke her hip, and had to be taken to the same hospital.  His surgery was Friday morning, and hers was Friday afternoon.  He never knew what happened to her, and she never got to speak to him until after her surgery, and by then he was brain-dead.  So very sad!  I just hurt for her especially.  They were married 57 years!  Their wedding is the only one in which I was a bride's attendant;  I played for all our other friends' weddings.  She and her children are going to need lots of prayer to recover from the shock(s)!  I don't think she will be able to go to the funeral!  Sooooo Sad!  (Sorry, but I just had to unload this horrible event!)

Next week should be better for me.  I found the top of the sewing machine today, but didn't open it!  Maybe I can get my thoughts and plans together this week-end.    I surely hope so!

Here's to a Happy New Year for everyone!

  1. So very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I hope his wife has a rapid physical recovery.
I still have my decorations up. I need to get them packed up, but I always feel a bit blue once all the fun is packed away. I do have some things that are just winter, so I guess that will have to do. ;)
I bet that machine will be open very soon.
    Happy stitching.

  2. I'm sure it's a relief in some ways to have December over and done with, but at least you have mostly happy memories of the time and now you can get back to normal living. What a shame about your classmate and his wife! My heart goes out to her.

  4. I think that sitting and rocking in the sunroom sounds lovely after all you have been through lately. Christmas has been put away here, too. I think a good after-Christmas cleaning is in order, and then maybe some sewing. Take care.

  5. Oh Love, how sad! Christmas for their family will be especially challenging in the years ahead. You might need to fill teh house with some fresh flowers and quilts to fill the gap from all your Christmas decorating. Sitting and rocking sounds pretty good to me!

  6. Rocking the day away sounds wonderful. All you need is a kitty on your lap and a book in your hand and it would be perfect! I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope his wife heals quickly and has plenty of friends to help her heal emotionally as well. Enjoy your clean sunroom since I know it won't stay tidy long thanks to quilt projects!
