Trying to Get Back to Quilting A Bit!

I was glad to see that the Moda Block Heads Block 15  is not as difficult as some have been.   So after a busy week with two more funeral dinners, I dug in and got mine made.  It reminds me of some of the old blocks from days gone by.  Some have even suggested the big "T"s may be connected to the Temperance Movement of the 1800's.  Whatever, I like it.

Week 15
I had been trying to decide on how to border a panel I had bought a while back, and finally decided to border it with four patches, so I've been working on those.  I'll wait to show the panel until later, but here's what I got done yesterday; still have a lot more to make. I'll put them together in sets of four as shown, repeating that same order all around.  Of course, I'll have a narrow black border on each side.  I'm not thrilled with the overall look it will have; I miss the bright colors, but this one needs black and white.

When I went out to get the mail the other day, in the grass I saw something that was so tiny and pretty!  I checked it out and then came back to get my camera.

Fallen from a bird nest I haven't seen

Tiny blue bird egg; isn't it cute?
I found an interesting link about bird eggs hatching on youtube that you might enjoy watching, just a couple of minutes long.  You can see it here  .

The video appears to show the same kind of egg that I found.  I looked up in the tree, but didn't see a nest, but I have seen robin red breast birds here quite a lot, so I think that's what I found.

I think maybe my time now would be better spent if I went back to putting my four-patches together.

Hope everyone is getting some quilting done today.

  1. That looks like a robin egg to me! We see parts of them in our yard from time to time, too. I like the new block heads block and the for 5 patches are cute. I'm curious what they'll border... Glad to hear you're back in the sewing room!

  2. I started on the Blockheads sew-along. Maybe three blocks done and have not found time for it since.

  3. Your "T"'s look great. Glad to hear you had time for some sewing. I like the black and white four patches, can't wait to see how they will be used. Sometimes black and white just works! Cute little egg, I think it is a robin's egg, too. They are such a pretty shade of blue. I had a 1972 Ford Mustang that was that pretty shade of light blue. Should have kept that thing! Have fun sewing and stay cool if your heat temps are as high as ours in NM.

  4. The egg you found sure looks like a robin's egg. Robin's egg blue is a term you don't hear much these days! Congratulations on being up to date with your Block Head blocks. I have been working on my Sesquicentennial quilt which means that I have neglected everything else. I'll need a week, at least, to catch up! You have made lots of little four patches. I'm curious too.

  6. Your found egg is certainly a pretty colour. Another super Blockhead block. Must say that I prefer the easier ones. Hope to start making some soon. Not getting a lot of sewing done either, just enough to keep my hand in.

  7. I've never made that block before, but will make it soon! Yours looks perfect. The baby robin video was amazing! It started opening his mouth right away. That mama better get out & get some worms ASAP. We have a robin's nest in my hanging basket that I got for Mother's day. It's right outside our front door and front window. I think the eggs were laid about June 6 and it takes 2 weeks to hatch, so any day now. Can't wait to see the babies!!

  8. I've never made a T block before.
I'm interested to see what panel gets that fun checkered border.
Such a pretty little egg. Makes me wonder if the Mama bird realizes that she lost it.
