A Finish on a Pretty Quilt Top

Wish I could say this one were mine!

I regularly quilt on Thursday with quilters at my church, and today was a good day!

There are about ten of us on the list, but lately because of health problems and doctor's visits, baby sitting grandchildren, and a variety of other reasons, our group has dwindled to three of us regularly.

We selected a pattern and purchased the fabric last fall, but didn't begin working on it until January because of our Christmas projects for shut-in members of our church.  We three have been there almost every week, plus an occasional one or two more.

I have been reading Mary Johnson's blog (Making Scrap Quilts from Stash) for several months and have been very impressed by her quilting, and her willingness to make her instructions and tips available on her blog.  I suggested one of her quilts as our church project, and the group agreed.  Her blog can be found here , and her instructions for the quilt we chose can be found here .   We decided to use the patriotic colors, and we are very pleased with how it turned out.  We had a bit more fabric than necessary, so we decided to add the checkerboard border to ours, and will bind it in navy blue.  We will have it machine quilted by a friend in another quilting bee in our community.  It measures 112" x 94".  We hope it brings lots of money at auction to send teenagers to church camp during Christmas holidays.

Don't ask where that date came from!  The pictures were taken today, 6-29-17.

I love the appearance of a circle, but there's not a curved piece anywhere!
Mary, I hope you see this post.  Thank you so much for sharing this quilt on your blog, as well as many other quilts you have listed there.  We are pleased with the outcome; hope you are pleased too. Sorry my pictures are not better.  The lighting in the room was very poor, and did not do justice to the fabrics, but at least the design is clear.

I hope to have more to show on my Family Rules project soon; I have been working on it!

---"Love"

  1. This is beautiful! You've done a lovely job. Sounds like a good cause, too.
Mary has some great quilts, doesn't she?
I used to participate in a church quilting group years ago. I was the youngest member, and as others moved away or passed away, the group dwindled away. I still cherish the relationships I had and the lessons I learned from those women.

  2. These patterns are so impressive and clever in how your eye makes the circles. What a lovely quilt. I'm heading over to Mary's blog. Thanks Love!

  3. I have followed Mary for a number of years. The string quilt I made and blogged about (years ago) is based on one of her patterns. Your group effort is beautiful and is sure to raise lots of money at the auction. Looking forward to seeing a completed Family Rules quilt before too long.
