It has taken a full seven days, but tonight I can go to bed in a clean house with only a few signs that Christmas has come and gone! Only the poinsettias, the Christmas quilts on the couch, loveseat and chair, and the three Christmas wall hangings and two table mats remain in view! I want to enjoy them a little longer, and they are easy to store later. There is not one bite of candy or cookies! Two closets are full of Christmas, properly packed, and the garage has 16 big tubs stacked to the ceiling as of last night!
Then today I scrubbed the sunroom floor, mopped the kitchen, scrubbed the bathrooms, vacuumed the rest of the house, and dusted everything! I still haven't found some of the regular stuff I hid away to have room for Christmas, but it will all show up someday.
As soon as I finished, I took a long, warm, soaking bath! When I dried my right foot, the skin started coming off like a peeling blistered back! Looks like I have the mange! Some have asked about it, so I'll tell you it is still somewhat swollen and sore, still purple, but feeling much better. I may be able to wear a regular shoe for a bit by next week --- I hope!
Life will be getting in the way of much quilting tomorrow, but maybe I can finish quilting that little Christmas table mat that I've enjoyed on the coffee table; it's still there! Saturday I hope to get another Barrister book case from my sister's which I will put in the den (the last space in my house for anything!---really!) to store some of MY quilts in. The other three just like it store my antique quilts. I may not like it there, but if I can't live with it there, I've promised it to the man who fixed my sewing machine cabinet and antique bookcase. He and his wife also love quilts; he has a lot from his mother, and wants the bookcase for his house. I really hope I can make it work for me! Can't get any more like it to match my other three.
Next week I hope to settle in on my next project, whatever it turns out to be; I have two or three in mind.
Sandy had asked if I could show pictures of the four quilts I did the binding on for my friend. I thought I took pictures when I finished, but I guess I only took pictures when I got them. Three are obviously made up from remnants and/or clothing, and one had more planning. The quilter used off white muslin for the backing, so I bound them all in muslin too. Here they are, before bindings:
Axe Head or Apple Core, very well pieced and points matched throughout. Obviously from clothing and/or remnants.
I don't know the real name of this;
I called it the Star quilt, with many, many different fabrics, most from clothing obviously.
A type of String Quilt, probably made from clothing.
Grandmother's Flower Garden, to me the prettiest one, and the only one with a border.
All four were hand pieced, but he had them machine quilted with an all-over pattern. He kept this one and gave the others to his three daughters. The hand workmanship was very good by his mother in the 1930's. Wish I had a picture of the bindings; he was very pleased with my work.
I thought all of them turned out very well, and they will be loved by all the girls and his wife.
I think I'll hit the sack and see what tomorrow holds! Hope all of you are still quilting!

ReplyDeleteI love those quilts;) Hope your foot gets better soon. Take it easy this week, and get some quilting done;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Quilting!!
The quilts are lovely. Isn't it nice that they were finally quilted and bound (after all those years) and can now be enjoyed by family.
ReplyDeleteI finished my Christmas clean-up yesterday, with the photo of my granddaughter and Santa as my only reminder (the two little boys are afraid of him).
So, what is next for you? I am still thinking of doing a Stack and Whack. I have a book and some fabric. I just need a little courage.
Sandy

Such beautiful quilts, and really are the epitome of that era. It must have been such an honour to bind them. :)
