Anyway, I couldn't wait any longer to show you the quilting. It's not perfect either, but I am pleased, and frankly surprised that it turned out as well as it did. Here it is:
Ignore the star! It may or may not be there the next time you see the quilt!
I'll show the whole quilt again when I finish it.
This is the back, which shows the design better.
Late in the week I remembered that I have to make something for the church youth auction in a couple of weeks! I wanted it to be patriotic too, as usual! Besides, all those fabrics were already out all over the place! It's very simple --- just three star blocks and a couple of borders. But again, I encountered a problem! The center block's center is that Pledge of Allegiance fabric that just repeats the Pledge, line after line --- no stopping. I wanted a double red strip around the printing to set it off within the flying geese, and indeed got the border on, and it met the required 6.5" square, including the border. When I started to sew on the flying geese, I noticed that no where in that block did the words "under God" appear. They were under the right side red stripes! Well, that just wouldn't do! I wanted the top line to show the beginning of the pledge, so I moved the right border over, and made just one red stripe around the block and got back to the needed 6.5", with the words "under God" showing. Other than that problem, the wall hanging went together very easily! The batting and backing are on the cabinet, and I'll probably get it pin basted tonight before I sleep. The border will be red/white bias stripe. I hope to quilt some on it tomorrow at some point. Again life keeps getting in the way, but I want to get it finished before the deadline!
Hope you can read this if you double click.
I'll make you look at both of them again when I get them finished. *grin*
Boy, did I miss all you bloggin' buddies while Blogger was down! I checked my last printed blog, and tonight I've caught up on the printing. Can't afford to lose all this valuable information, right? *giggle*
Somehow tomorrow, I've got to find time to run the vacuum over the den! I've tracked threads and clippings in from the sunroom!
Have a good week, and get lots of quilting done! I hope the weather is better across the world!

I really like The Wave Salute, and your quilting is fantastic. Star or no star, it looks great. The patriotic quilt (I want to call it a runner) is coming together very nicely. I love your attention to detail!

The wave salute is amazing! The quilting really sets it off and I think you can go either way with the stars. No matter what you decide it will look great. The wall hanging is so fun. I would have struggled with the wording too. Glad it worked out!
ReplyDeleteLove them both! Leave the star, I like it. If the whole quilt is like what you showed, I would even add a few more. Can't believe all those blocks are Drunkard's Path.

The quilting in The Wave Salute is beautiful! Okay, so if I look really closely, I see it's not machine-made perfect, but who wants that anyways? :) Stars are no easy task to applique (inside points, outside points...sheesh!), but take your time and they'll go okay. The wall hanging is very pretty. I hope it brings in a good donation!
ReplyDeleteYour Wave Salute is great! You did such a nice job on the quilting. I like how you waved the quilting. The star looks good to me.
ReplyDeleteYour other project, is really great too. I like the double red around the blocks and the bias binding is going to be perfect. The double stars on either side of the pledge fabric really set off that. I look forward to seeing them all the way done.
Haven't been here for awhile. Wow, Love, I just love the quilt and the little star looks great.
ReplyDeleteGood job on both.
