Country Log Cabin Quilter Ruth and PurpleHeartOri"Jenn"al Jennifer arrived at my home about 10 AM, and before we knew it, the clock said 4:15 PM! We were all wondering where the time had gone!
Ruth brought me these two cuties: a tissue holder and a table mat made of fabric-covered bottle caps.
We had "Show and Tell" for quite a while. They both brought some beautiful quilts and other projects. We've seen most of them in their blogs, but let me tell you, up close and personal, they all were gorgeous. Somehow the pictures just do not do justice to any of them! Then I fed them sandwiches and Strawberry Pie. After that we talked about everything quilty for what seemed like just a few minutes; the time passed so quickly, but we didn't realize it. Ruth tried out my Curvemaster Foot. My machine was acting up very badly, but even so, she made a block that looked perfect if you don't look at the stitches! After they left, I cleaned the machine and put in a new needle and re-threaded it, and now it is working fine, thank goodness.
We were so focused on our quilting conversation that we never thought about taking pictures! Sorry about that! I realized that about the time they got to the first corner as they were leaving! We agreed to get together again, and maybe have a sew-in! Doesn't that sound like fun? Wish all you APQ'ers could be here then!
I've been working on the new project this week. Here's the first picture I took of the first blocks together:
Doesn't clue you in very much, does it?
I kept working on it today as I had time, and I still have to tweak the borders a bit, and add a little applique. It is called "The Wave Salute" from the June/July 2009 issue of "Quilt" magazine. I knew when I saw it, I had to make it someday. That is why I bought the Curvemaster Foot. Here's my progress so far.
Go here to see the designers' original quilt. http://www.thesweetteagirls.com/ ; check out Patterns, Page 1.
Be sure to check out their Rules for Quilting on the page for Quilts for Family and Friends.
The original was 62" x 68", and as is my practice, you would know I would make some changes. Mine is 35" x 38", and I did the borders a little differently. The striped border is a folded strip sewn in with the red border and loose on the other side, overlapping the "Pledge of Allegiance" fabric. Maybe you can read it if you double-click the picture. I will bind it with the stripe on the bias. The curved piecing was something new to me, but it was fun. I think I'll try to machine quilt it myself. I will be making another one soon, with different fabrics.
I think maybe my Underground Railroad quilt will be next. I'm looking forward to that one too!
Hope you are having fun quilting!

What a fun day you all had! How jealous we all are! So glad you all had such a wonderful time. I do like you curvies and they have made a nice little quilt. Ann :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, your visit sounds like too much fun! Wish I could have been there. Covered bottlecaps? Sounds really familiar but I can't remember from where, although I know it was sometime in my childhood. Love the new curvy piece. Never saw Drunkard's Path arranged that way and I like it, very much! You do such beautiful work!

I LOVE what you did with those curved blocks. I knew it wasn't going to be as simple as a Drunkard's Path or you wouldn't have teased us. I might just have to dig out my Curvemaster foot and try this out myself. And I'm glad you gals had a wonderful time visiting. I wish I lived closer, too, but maybe next time you'll remember the camera so those of us who live so far away can at least join the fun that way.
ReplyDeleteYour 'Wave' looks so good. I really like the setting. Your fabrics are perfect and add lots of interest to an already awesome quilt.
ReplyDeleteI just knew that the three of you would have a great time talking quilts. Wish we all could have been there too!
Can't wait to see what fabrics you use on the next wave.
Your quilt is gorgeous! You did a wonderful job on it, can't wait to see how you quilt it! It sounds like you had a wonderful day with Ruth and Jen, I wish we could all get together!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how your wavy quilt turned out! It is really stunning!! Are you going to put stars on it too? Thanks again for such a wonderful time Saturday!
ReplyDeleteAha! I thought you must have something in mind other than the obvious drunkard's path! It looks lovely. I'm glad you had such a lovely visit with Ruth and Jen.
ReplyDeleteI am a little jealous -- I don't know anyone who quilts. (Of course, I know all of you, but you know what I mean.) I love The Wave Salute. What a neat quilt. I am imagining it in other colours, too. Can't wait to see your next project.

Looking again at the first photo of just the few blocks - that would make an awesome border for another quilt... (Jeez, look at me go, I SO do not need any more projects!)
ReplyDeletesounds like you all had so much fun! Its wonderful to spend a day with other quilters. I love your quilt and your fabric choices could not have been better. Thanks for sharing

It seems to be the way when like minded crafty girls get together! Glad you all had such a lovely time. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh Love! Your RWB curved block quilt turned out awesome!! I love the movement effect that it has. And yes - next time we meet up it needs to be for a sew-in! I'm game! Sorry I missed you guys at the quilt show. Loved your pics as well as Ruth's though. Thanks for sharing. Jenn
