I had seen this quilt (and a second yo-yo quilt) at an estate sale several weeks ago, but didn't think I could afford them. I told a friend about them, and he decided to buy them, hoping to re-sale them. He brought them to me before Christmas and asked if I could make a few repairs for him, so that's why I have them now. I do plan to buy this one from him, and help him sell the second one maybe. (I'll show a picture of it later.) I haven't calculated the number of yo-yo's yet, but they are 1.5" in diameter. I do know there's a LOT of yo-yo's there!
Both quilts are in excellent condition, and clean! Both were hand-stitched, by the same person I'm pretty sure. The one shown here had only one repair to be made (that I found anyway). While some of the colors would not have been my choice, the pink "sashings" are the perfect color for my bedroom! It is not something I'd keep in use all the time anyway, so I think I can live with it for special times.
The second quilt has several yo-yo's that have separated, but I'm working on those. It's not hard; just time-consuming. However, not nearly as many repairs are needed as were needed on that first hexagon yo-yo quilt I bought! I may decide to buy the second one too, (if he will let me pay it out! I had an expensive December, remember?).
I still haven't decided what I'll start on next. I need to decide on something tomorrow before I go to the old guild group meeting for a sew time together. I'm thinking maybe some HST's or 4-patches from my Civil War stash. I don't have a plan in mind yet, but those can be used in so many ways, and I surely need to use those fabrics! My sons and grandsons would probably like those much more than more pink and green flowers! I'll give that some thought.
Just couldn't wait any longer to show you the yo-yo quilt. More to come later.
If you are in the U.S., stay warm, wherever you are! It's cold here in Texas, but not as bad as up north, I know. I just couldn't live up there! If you are in Australia or another hot place, try to stay cool! Time changes everything, doesn't it?
Happy quilting!

Wow! That is an amazing quilt - so many yo-yos. Imagine how many hours that took to make. Lucky it's in such good condition. There is an APQ yo yo quilt I'd like to make but it's no where near as ambitious as this!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is lovely and so nice and large! Wow! Lots of work in it! Have fun at your sew-in! Using the CW fabric for HST's or 4-patches or 9-patches would be a great start on a quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow! I want one! I should probably finish everything else first though. Enjoy the lovely new quilt ...Karen x
ReplyDeleteIt is a beauty. I love yo-yos. I also love hexies. I am afraid that I like way too many things....not enough time in the day for all of it.
ReplyDeleteI have never made a yo-yo quilt but think it would be easy for them to come apart if one was moved very much. Nice colors in what you show.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that many yoy-yos together! I can see why you'd like to have it.
